Going for an Indian and not sure how to log

Looking forward to catching up with my old boss on Tuesday over an Indian or possibly a Thai. Thai I tend to eat tom yum kai or pad thai, Indian either a mix of veg (e.g. okra) or a lamb dopiaza and pilau rice.
Either way I have no idea how I'm going to log this! I expect the calorie count will be high, and I'm happy to exercise to compensate or just go over if I have to, but I'm not sure how to work it. Any ideas?

I tend to lie to myself and log the least amount of calorie dish available in mfp... I make sure at least the macros are in there though to make it look more ligit to myself.0

Haha I don't want to lie!!!0

*sigh*... The next option is to look the restaurant up and see the menu. Most of them have a calorie counter... But then, you may opt to only drink water if you see the truth.0

I use my donut policy: find an accurate description, search for lowest cals, has at least 1 confirmation, macros filled out, and log away. The method hasn't failed me or caused me to gain an ounce in a year, so it's legit. Then again, I've been logging my daily popcorn incorrectly for 1.5 years and have been logging 160 cals instead of 400 cals. If you're consistent in screwing things up, it cancels out.0

Do the best you can with the nutrition information you're able to find here or elsewhere online. When in doubt, err on the side of caution and log a higher calorie entry rather than a lower one if you're not sure. Have what you want, but be mindful of portion control and of extras like rice and naan. One meal isn't going to ruin your efforts, but you can have something you enjoy and still make it fit your daily goals if you plan ahead.0

Thanks writer geek, good idea. I just had a Google and I reckon a portion of dopiaza is likely to be about 750, pilau 650, pad thai 950, and I won't worry about the soup. If I go for a cycle in the morning before work and eat carefully during the day, I should be able to justify it in within my calories
Also, eating less of the sauce or getting mixed vegetables will help calories...

The other good thing about portion control is that you often get tasty leftovers to take home and have the next day!0
