Not losing any more weight

I'm a little frustrated here. For the past three weeks I've been dieting. I've been consistently losing a ton of weight. I figure its all water weight so of course its going to come off quick before I get to the hard task. But I'm a little bit confused. See I haven't changed anything I'm doing since I joined the site really, but the wight loss has dried up. In fact a lot of it returned. After I last logged my weight, I gained back 7 pounds, seemingly for no reason. I've whittled it back to five pounds but I'm still wondering why this is happening.

You're going to need to open your diary and give us a little more information about what you've been doing, how much you want to lose, your weekly weight loss goal, etc, for anyone to be able to say anything other than "you're not in a calorie deficit." That's probably going to be the answer anyway, but we can give you more specific information as to why that's the case with more info.
  • Whoops! I thought I'd set that to open some time ago! My bad. Well it should be opened up now.

Your Sodium is all over the place so it's likely to be water. Also did you really have 450g of strawberries as that is an awful lot? Just wondering as to the accuracy of your logging it initially doesn't look bad but that sticks out to me. There's a lot of processed and cured meat which are all high in salt which will effect water retention.
  • Well the 450 grams of strawberries were over the course of several hours on my workday. I try to keep something to snack on so that I don't feel like binging when I get off work. And since I work opposite shifts from ym girlfriend, when I get home, I don't want to start cooking because I make a lot of noise and wake her up, so that's why I'm still eating the fast foods and stuff. Still, if what I have to do is work on cutting that down, then its what I'll do. I've also had a lot of trouble keeping my sugars below everyday. I've kind of had this tendency to replace all of my junk food with fruit.

Hi. You appear to eating basically the same thing everyday. Has this been going on long term? I'd suggest shaking things up a bit (ditch the fries and chips). Add more vegetables and complex carbs (oats, whole wheat pasta, brown rice etc). Drink more too ( water, teas coffee but not high sugar fizzys or juices). :-)
  • yeah sometimes I cook veggies. ive been bad about it lately though. But yes, I do tend to eat around the same sort of thing daily. Sometimes it feels like routine is thething that helps me behave my best. But its appearing that I need to just stop with the fries at least. And I do drink water regularly. But its out of the water cooler at work with those ridiculous paper cones, so I'm not sure how to measure it. I appreciate the help and ideas from everyone!

Right off the bat, eat more. Limit your sodium. Fatandfifty3 had good suggestions about changing up your food.
  • Using more complex carbs is something I hadn't thought about but its a great idea. I bet some fettuccini with whole wheat would be a heck of a lot better than the regular fettuccini I've been eating. But do you really think eating more would help? If I eat more, I have a tendency to go over on other values, particularly my sugar.

Buy a water bottle and take it to work with you to get water out of the cooler or take water from home. I have two 32oz. Camelbak bottles and about 4 32oz Nalgene bottles that use to carry water in plus a number of other random water bottles so I always have water with me. That should help. In the summer my goal is a gallon a day so I will fill up my water bottles in the morning and finish them throughout the day.

ETA: As for the veggies, who say they need to be cooked? Carry raw ones with you to munch on through the day. I pre-weigh carrots, broccoli, and celery to again munch on throughout the day (when I actually go shopping that is) and prelog them for the day. If I don't eat them I just delete them from my food diary.

Now that I have looked through your diary I'd also recommend upping your protein a lot. It will help you feel full and help support your muscles.

Read these and all the links that go with them:

They are full of really good information.

Also this will help you as far as weighing and logging food:

  • Thank you so much for the help! One more thing. Do you have any good suggestions for protein on the go? Its one of m nutrients I have a difficult time getting up

Protein to go can be tuna packets, non-fat greek yogurt, boiled eggs or even egg salad sandwiches, beef jerky (be mindful of sodium), cottage cheese, a chicken breast you cook the night before, nut butters (also contain fat) and even cold lentil soup if you like it. Just some ideas. There are lots of other things that can be packed or grabbed.

I have pulled into a grocery store instead of a fast food place and gone to the meat market section where they have the cooked shrimp ready to weigh out for customers. Usually its frozen but beginning to thaw, sitting on ice. I just ask the butcher to grab the pieces that are the most thawed. He will weigh it so I know exactly how much I'm eating! That is really easy, high protein low calorie snacking/eating!

You can do the same with deli lunch meats but its difficult to find some that are not high in sodium. I think Boars Head has a few. Maybe some straight turkey breast will be available at your deli if you are lucky.
