Hey guys!
I just wanted to share a couple things I've done in the past couple days that a year ago I never thought possible. I've never been good with self-control, and until I hit the end of high school, it was never a problem. I could eat three slices of pizza and cheese fries and stay the same weight. So once I started gaining weight, I just kind of shrugged it off. I'd never had to work at it before, so why start now? That mentality held me down for quite a while, and even once I got past it, my complete lack of self-control always sabotaged any attempt at weight loss.
But this weekend, I overcame that in a big way. I have a second job at Petsmart, and one of my coworkers baked cupcakes and put them in the break room, then went around and told everyone they were there. While I was standing at the register, it wasn't that big a deal. But I have to go into the break room to clock out after my shift. There was a good three or four second hesitation as I stared at the cupcakes, but I shook myself out of it and actually held my hand out and said "no" out loud. I walked to my car minus a cupcake but plus a smile.
Then, on the way home, there's a McDonald's that I very frequently stop at. My shift was 9-2, so I was hungry. I hadn't eaten anything yet that day, and I reasoned that there were enough calories for my to have two of the grilled snack wraps and some fries. But as I turned onto the street the building was on, I just kept on driving. I said to myself "there's something you can make at home that will fill you more, cost you less, and make you feel better about your choice." As it turns out, I was right. There's an app called Spark Recipes that has tons of healthy recipes to choose from, and I ended up making a Grilled Cheese Pizza Sandwich for less calories than a single snack wrap. (And it tasted so much better too!)
Sorry for the tl;dr, but with the past I've had with bad choices and zero willpower, these little things make all the difference in the world to me.

Congrats, small daily changes will have the biggest long term impact.
May I suggest that you start packing healthy food/treats for yourself to bring to work? Some days are going to be harder than others to beat temptation, especially going for 5 hours without food. If you get yourself in the habit of eating healthy, and keeping it on hand, you will do better. Good luck and enjoy your NSV!!0 -
The only thing with Petsmart is that if your shift is 5 hours or less, you don't get a lunch break. You do get a 15, in which I ate a blueberry nutrigrain bar. Other than that break though, I'm at the front register. I can't have any kind of snack there. I do think the Nutrigrain bar helped, though. And I know for a fact it helped my sweet tooth.0

That's awesome!!! Always feels great when you can overcome that urge to grab something only because it's tasty and convenient. Remember how you feel now for next time you have a temptation.0

I forgot to mention that when I went shopping, I picked up some healthy snacks, and instead of letting them sit in the boxes (I'm a boredom eater and will go through a whole box of Wheat Thins or the like without realizing) I instantly sat down and made up baggies of a serving each.
So when I reach for that second bag, I consciously know that I'm going in for a second serving.0 -
Congratulations, it's the little changes that turn into larger habits. You're going to do fine! Keep up the updates so we can share them!0

Great Job! Store that one in your memory bank and the next time temptation comes calling, bring it back up to show yourself you can handle it! Each next time gets a little easier.
Once a month, the guys at work get Pepperoni Rolls. Huge, greasy, yummy Pepperoni rolls. I have now turned them down twice in a row. The first time, I left the office for lunch so I wouldn't feel deprived. This time, I sat with them and ate my healthy leftovers and enjoyed the lunch time.
Keep up the good work!0 -
I think speaking out loud helps with stopping oneself - I know it does with me!0
