What is your over/under for leftovers? My general rule is a week. Unless it is something crappy, then I use the excuse to throw it away.

I am eating 1 week old weinerschnitzel, potatoes, and vinegar cole slaw for lunch today. It is amazing, tastes just as good as the day I cooked it.

I have an amazing weinerschnitzel.

Welcome!

I had some Oscar Mayer deli turkey that was sketchy when I opened it. Today it was slimey. Tossed that quickly.

I personally won't eat left overs past a couple days. If there is more than two days worth and it's not something my family wants to eat all week I freeze it for a night I don't wish to cook.

I can't do cooked meat over 3 days. Thankfully, my husband can, and no good leftovers get trashed.

Lunchmeat always gross me out within a few days, unless it's salami or pepperoni. That iridescent look roast beef gets freaks me out.

generally, if it smells fine, looks fine, and nothing is growing on it and it's not stale.. then it's good...

They have the world's most wanted weiner.......? Really?

If I made it at home then it's 5 days (or freeze it if possible).

For take out, restaurant leftovers, delivery then it's 3 days tops and then into the trash.

It very much depends on the leftover, it's acidity, how it was cooked, cooled and stored, etc. There's a lot of good information at http://www.foodsafety.gov/

    Bragging about your weinerschnitzel?

I don't brag often, but I do take extra care to make sure that my weinerschnitzel is 2nd to none.

Tender, juicy, moist, melts in your mouth. The taste explodes as soon as it hits your tongue.

It is all in the prep.

Same here, 7 days unless it's fish, then it's 4 days tops.

I don't have a time test, I do the touch/smell/taste test. I touch it to see if it's slimy, I smell it to see if I can smell mold that I can't see, and I taste it to see if it has gone bad.

Your Q made me realize this is kind of a quirk of mine...never more than 24 hours, but it's not because I'm concerned about food safety. I just act like it's a dang emergency that there's prepared food sitting in the fridge and I MUST have it for a meal ASAP.

You would think that would be something worth bragging about, yet my wife constantly complains about this exact thing.

depending on what it is, 3-5 days for me. I once had 6 day old lasagna and got sick, so I just make sure to use my leftovers a bit quicker.
