I have the same thing going on here. I do set the treadmill at an incline and, of course, the "walking, 4.0 mph" entry in the exercise database here doesn't take incline into account, BUT...there is a BIG difference between my treadmill calorie count and MFP's calorie count, and I can't believe the incline makes that much of a difference.

Are you sure you are putting the time/speed in correct? When I put in 30 minutes at 3.0 mph, it shows me as burning 240 calories, which is very close to the 242 the actual machine calculated.

Because the trademill 'knows" the intensity of your walk (pace, incline, and HR), and the MFP database does not. Unless you wear a heart rate monitor (HRM), you should take the numbers given by the treadmill, rather that what the MFP database shows in your exercise diary.

run outside it's better and if you have a heart monitor you should wear that. alot of these calories on here are inflated.

Yes, the incline does make a difference in the calories burned and in your heart rate. You burn more calories walking uphill(incline), and that on a leveled surface.
  • I'm so glad you said that. I walked for 25 mins last night at 5.5km at various inclines ranging up to 5 and I thought treadmill said I burnt 223 cals but only got 170+ on this. Hopefully we'll lose all the more at the end of the month:huh:

Running outside isn't an option in much of the U.S. during the winter. Today in Minnesota the roads and sidewalks are covered with glare ice, not to mention snow is piled up everywhere, and I do mean everywhere! Snowfall during December broke all previous records.
  • I have noticed this with most of my workouts but I have a heart rate monitor so I go by that. I would suggest using one because they are more accurate.
