Can I eat whatever I want?

I lost 28 pounds on MFP about a year and a half ago, then Christmas hit and that was my excuse, I guess to eat. Then I started getting 44 oz coke icees every day. That didn't help anything. I wasn't keeping track of calories or exercising. I am back on here and trying to get the weight off that I put back on, plus another 30 pounds or so. My question is this: Is it ok to have a coke icee a few days a week as long as I fit it in my calories?

Don't deprive yourself, if you want it, have it. Just make sure you keep track of the calories and sugar that you are consuming.0

If you eat what you've always eaten, you'll weigh what you've always weighed.0

I bet once you log those Icee calories a few times, the cravings will become less intense.0

Not if you eat less of it.0 -

^this. I still eat foods I ate when I was 170 lbs... I just account for them and plan accordingly0 -

Exactly, I lost 24 pounds and the whole time I had been eating what I like and what I want but smaller portions.0 -
Yes. I still eat Junk food! You have to make it fit into your daily calorie goal though.0

If you meant to say if you eat what you always have eaten, in the same quantities......then I would agree.
How about this........sure you can have one.....how about making it a smaller one instead of the 44oz kegger which is about 400 calories give or take.
Sure you can have them, make yourself a deal that on weigh in days if you see teh scale go down you go have one that day but keep it in your calories for the day!0 -
you could always run to the 7-11 have your icee then run home. Burn those cals. then you can get in shape too0

How many calories are in a 44 oz coke icee? While I'm a proponent of eating junk food, I also track my macro and micro nutrients. Too much junk food too often gets in the way of making sure I hit my protein numbers.
According to the database here it's 358 - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/coca-cola-large-coke-icee-55454698 - not bad for a once a week treat, but for myself personally, it would be hard to justify that more often then that. For that many calories, I can have my peanut butter banana chocolate protein smoothie and get 50 grams of protein lol.
If I loved coke icees, I'd do one of two things - have a 44 oz once a week or have it a few times a week, but get a 21 oz instead of a 44 oz. That's what I do with my junk food loves. Where as before MFP, whenever I stopped at the gas station, I'd pick up a donut. Now, I go to a local bakery and have an uber amazing donut, fresh from the fryer, on Saturday. Instead of a fast food meal 3 nights a week, I'll have one fast food lunch Sunday afternoon. Then during the week, I'll have smaller tasty treats that don't break the calorie bank.0 -
Once I started logging the things I was eating, things like icees got less appealing. I still have sweets every now & then but I've cut my portions in half or maybe even a third of what I would have in the past.
Yesterday I even tossed half a Sierra Mist Natural after I logged it & saw how much sugar I was going to be drinking. It took 30 minutes of just sitting at my desk looking at it & thinking about the calories to toss it but I did.
My advice is to log first & then decide if you really want it or if you may just be bored or there's something else that you would rather have that's less calories.0 -

Exactly! You could eat McDonald's every day and still lose weight as long as you allow for it in your calorie count.0 -

I agree with this completely, and do the same thing.
When I first started dating my husband (who is fit and a healthy eater) I thought he was such a food snob. Why not have a Snickers bar once in awhile? But now I totally get it. Fresh hot donut on Saturday morning = way more satisfying!0 -

Not quite.
If you eat what you've always eaten in the same amounts you've always eaten them in, THEN you'll weigh what you've always weighed.
If you eat what you've always eaten and learn to fit it into your calorie needs, then you will hit your goals. From a fitness and nutrition perspective, it's still best to aim for a balanced diet overall. But there's nothing wrong with having an icee or any other treat and fitting it into your day.
I eat what I've always eaten. The only difference is, I'm now very mindful or portion sizes and my body's energy/nutrition requirements. 76 pounds later, it seems to be working out.0 -

Agreed, it's all about quantity.
To lose weight you can still eat all the food you used to eat - you just have to restrict the amount you eat.
Now if you are looking to weigh less and be healthier, that's a different ball game. That will require watching WHAT you eat and the frequency.0 -
I agree. Never deprive yourself. Just make sure it fits into your calorie alotment.:drinker:0

Yes..you can eat what you want. Maybe not as much or as often as you want, though.0
-
Of course you can have your icee!
However, once you realize that 358 calories could have been a full, satisfying meal vs a drink, you'll probably change your mind.0 -

I'm talking about losing weight and becoming healthier. The way I see it… who cares what you look like on the outside if you are a ticking time bomb on the inside.0 -
If you eat what you've always eaten, you'll weigh what you've always weighed.
THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE( for me anyway). I eat the same foods. I have not taken any one food group out of my daily diet, I have not changed so much what I eat, but rather, I eat much smaller portions. I use measuring cups, tablespoons, and I purchased a scale to weigh my food. I do eat healthier, I do choose to make wiser decisions, but I still eat pizza, cheeseburgers, iceream, and chips. Not everyday, I just incoporate something I want into my day and work around it. I have lost 15 pounds so obviously I'm doing something right.0 -

^^^^ That really got me out of my habits of eating things that I probably shouldn't have.
But yes, if it fits into your daily intake, by all means, go ahead and have one. Just be honest with yourself.0 -
If your goal is just to lose weight, go ahead.
If you want to get healthier and develop better eating habits, a few days a week may be too much.0 -
Seems kind of dumb to have "a few a week". Maybe one. But those are pure sugar. Not saying don't treat yourself, but a few a week is a party.0

I focus on staying within my total calories, and maximizing foods that are good for me. I don't even think about minimizing (and certainly not eliminating) junk food. My goal is to give my body vitamins and minerals and things it needs. If I can say I've done a decent job of that and I still have calories left, I can't see any reason NOT to have some cake, or a Hot Pocket, or an Icee. Yum!0
