Wedding Dress - First Fitting On Saturday!

Sorry, I need to rant a little. My wedding dress is now in, and I am scheduled for my first fitting this Saturday. I'm incredibly nervous. I've gained weight since the time I bought the dress, so I have this fear that it won't fit. The dress is strapless, and I have bad stretch marks under my arms. I was planning on adding capped sleeves to hide the stretch marks, but someone recently told me that capped sleeves make "fat arms even fatter." I'm freaking out. I don't know what to do!

Unless you've gained a significant amount of weight I wouldn't worry about it not fitting. But fi you're really worried, drink lots of water and go for short walks at night and eat at a deficit for a few days. You'll drop some water weight and feel fabulous.
Also, you should do what YOU feel most comfortable in. If you want capped sleeves and think they look beautiful then you should do it. It is your day, you should feel like a princess when you wear that dress!0 -
I would see if they could adjust the "neckline" of the dress to hit a light higher to hide those marks if you don' t want to add the sleeves, but you can also have them pin mock ones on to see how you feel about.
As far as the weight gain... don't worry about.. weddings are stressful and your weight will fluctuate. Just make sure that its not too significant or it can affect the way the dress hangs on you! Good luck dear in both your fitting and marriage!0 -
I have really bad stretch marks on my arms also, although they are getting harder to see as they get older. If I ever get married, I want a strapless gown. I plan on having my stretch marks airbrushed with makeup so that you can't see them. Something to consider.0

If you have a way to tan before the wedding do it! Tanning hides stretch marks very well! Thats what i always did before losing the weight and toneing up now u can barely see them as far as sleeves goes why not try a dress with sleeves just go see how it would look then decide for yourself!0

Ok. So no freaking out. Everything will be just fine. That's what fittings are FOR!!! I promise. Dresses can be let out and adjusted in all sorts of marvelous ways. I doubt you'll need it.
Don't do the sleeves until you try tanning. Frankly, I do agree that cap sleeves emphasize the arms (calls attention to them) and if it isn't your favorite body part, it will likely look much cleaner and nicer strapless.0 -
Oooh - and not that you need it, but I had a friend do a lovely sheer shawl over her shoulders that made her more comfortable. Also, have them pin the sleeves on to see what you think. I think an off-the-shoulder draped sleeve could do wonders for you if you feel you want them!!0

There is nothing about cap sleeves that will make your arms look bigger (or whatever nefarious deed they were claimed to do.) Try your dress on, and discuss options that will make you feel comfortable on your special day. Good luck!0

Trust me they can make dresses fit, had a friend that lost 60 lbs with phentermine (size 14 I think), then stopped taking the pills AND got pregnant, and at 240 lbs they made the dress fit her, they had to add fabric, which I'm sure you WONT have to do.
But yes dresses can be made to fit.
If that doesn't make you feel a bit better..... then well.... we luv you anyways.0 -
FYI tanning will not cover stretch marks. Stretch marks are scars, and they don't tan. It will actually make them stand out more. A spray tan could work though as that will paint the scarred skin as well.0

No stressing! It's only your first fitting anyway. You're going to be beautiful at whatever weight. Do whatever you feel most comfortable, but I do think that most attempts to cover up only emphasize the perceived flaws you think you're trying to hide anyway. You are who you are, and as much as we think we're going to be physically the center of attention, its our energy, our smiles, our tears, our emotions, that will be the focus of the day.0

YES TO THIS! When I said "tan" I was thinking spray tan. I don't tan any other way.0 -
I agree with some of the OP's I'm not a big fan of cap sleeves. It's amazing what the seamstress can do, don't worry express to them your concerns and they might be able to give you some advice and don't worry about fitting into the dress either, I'm sure you will! Also-- what I've been using to try to fade my stretch marks is a combination of this stuff called bio-oil & coconut oil I was skeptical at first but they are fading! Enjoy this amazing time in your life-- don't forget to do that, it goes by so quick! :flowerforyou:0

Thank you all so much0

The fact that you are wearing sleeveless top in your profile photo - and look good - makes me think that you will look absolutely fine in a strapless bridal gown.
Don't panic!0 -

More visible now compared to when? And in your previous post you said they're not hardly visible at all? So which is it?0 -

I was being sarcastic not in a *****y way although it came out that way. I still have stretch marks but tanning has helped them since summer hit and ive been a beach bum i don't notice them quite as often as i did when i was snow white, so in my experience tanning has helped my stretch marks but working out has helped them a tremendous amount so maybe its a combination.0 -

Or they are fading with time. When you first get them, they are very noticeable. Time is the only thing I have found to help them fade to silver, and I have plenty of them. Weight loss has helped mine as well, simply because they are not pulled so tightly.
ETA: I just don't want OP to start tanning, and then have them show up even worse over a darker skin tone. I stand behind spray tan or makeup being the best at covering them for her wedding.0 -

Ohhh! That makes much more sense! If OP can find a good spray tan or airbrush makeup i would for sure go that route!0
