Question about my barbell circuit at home

Hi everyone. I have been inspired by the awesome ladies who lift on this site, and managed to get myself a barbell and dumbbell set from Ebay. I have ordered Nrol Supercharged and should hopefully receive it by the end of the week.

In the meantime I have found a workout to do on Youtube, which is:

Upright Row (15 reps)
Shoulder Press (15 reps)
Front Squat (15 reps)
Bent Over Row (15 reps)
Static Lunge (15 reps each leg)
Deadlift (15 reps)
Stepups (15 reps each leg)

You do this circuit 3-5 times.

I did this routine yesterday 3 times and found that for some exercises I could go heavier than I was (deadlifts and bent over rows), and lighter than I was (shoulder press; could only do 9 reps).
It would be a pain to have to keep putting weight on the barbell and then taking it off so my question is instead of going through the circuit 3 times, can I do 3 sets of upright row, 3 sets of shoulder press etc and maybe have a minute or two rest in between each set?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it would be silly to do it in a way that is not beneficial to me. Thanks.

That's the way you should be doing it. Barbell "circuits" IMO are a bad idea.

You'd be better off doing something like this:

    Deadlifts - 3 sets of 5 reps
    Squat - 3 sets of 5 reps
Bench Press - 3 sets of 5 reps
Static Lunge - 3 sets of 12 reps
Bent Over Row - 3 sets of 5 reps
Shoulder Press - 3 sets of 5 reps

Do the most important lifts first (Deadlift & Squats) You have no chest work currently in your workout so I added Bench Press. Back Squats > Front Squats. Upright Rows make no sense to have in your workout at this point. Do the compound lifts for 5 reps, at a heavy weight in which you can do the 5 reps without compromising your form. This is a lot of volume for a newbie, so you might consider doing the lower body work (Squats, Lunges, etc.) on their own day.

As a beginner, you would be better off following a recognised beginner programme such as Stronglifts, Starting Strength or Ice Cream Fitness 5x5.

All these programmes involve completing all sets in one exercise before moving onto the next.

i think you are better off doing straight sets (all your upright rows, then all your squats, etc).

but only because taking time to change out the weights is going to defeat the purpose of circuit training a little.

If you would perfer to train with the straight sets then that is definetly the way to go

Karen Janine-Thankyou, I am waiting for Nrol Supercharged and will start that once I have read it through. I just wanted to do a routine until then and not start a different programme as I really want to do Nrol.
