Question for the vegetarians/vegans out there

Hello i have a question for vegetarians and vegans who eat out at restaurants. I was wondering how you track restaurant "fake meat" if you don't know specifically what it is? I eat at a vegan Chinese place a lot, but i can't tell if the faux chicken is seitan, pea protein or something similar.

Wondering if using the nutritional info for a product like Beyond Meat or Gardein would be close enough.

Suggestions? TIA!!

You could try asking them what it is; it's usually tofu or seitan, but they could tell you (also about how it's prepared).
    Good luck!

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but my first suggestion, especially if you eat at the same restaurant a lot, would be to ask them what it is you're eating. I'm pretty sure they'd be willing to tell you the main ingredients.

I would just ask. Tell them that you really like it and are wondering which brand they use.

I'm vegetarian, not vegan, but when I was omni, I was invited to a vegan restaurant for a friends birthday and I asked what I was eating they were happy to tell me (it was seitan), it was good food but not something I'd eat regularly.

One of the reasons I'm not vegan is it kind of bothers me that I could be eating a vegan substitute and not know exactly what I'm eating just to avoid cheese, eggs and milk products. I do not eat fake meats even as a vegetarian (my veggie burgers are made out of portobello mushroom and swiss cheese instead of soy)

Thanks everyone! Next time I go I am going to ask how it's prepared. I am pretty sure it's setian, but I would like to know for sure. I think they prepare everything from scratch, so hopefully they will share :-)

    Hi,

I'm neither vegetarian or vegan, but I do eat vegan foods because I'm dairy intolerant; due to my intolerance I alway have to ask exactly what is in my foods and most places are more than happy to tell you, or they will go and find someone who knows, usually the chef.

you could ask the restaurant if they can supply the number of calories for the meal. often they can.
