Different scale, different weight??

Ok I've been keeping track of my weight loss with this scale i got from this past Christmas. Its been doing well and im happy with it. However today i was over at a friend's house and i decided to weigh myself on her scale. It said that I am almost 4 pounds heavier than what my home scale says. What do i do with that??

get a 10 lbs free weight and put it on your scale... if it reads 10 lbs, you know your's is exact... if not, adjust it while the weight is on there to the 10 lbs0

you don't worry about it b/c you are tracking on the scale you are using. Every scale will be slightly different from each other.
I bought a new one and suddenly I was 10 pounds heavier. I just adjusted my starting weight and current weight accordingly so that I had still lost the same amount, but could track the amount I weighed on the new scale.0 -
I don't ever trust bathroom scales. I don't even own one. They easily become uncalibrated and can become grossly inaccurate. I once had a scale that I could step on step off and zero it and step back on and it would tell me a different weight by up to 2 pounds 0_o.
I only ever use the one at that gym and I'm not really sure I trust that one either but at least it's consistent and gives me the same weight if I step on it more than once within a few seconds.0 -

I weight two lbs. more on my home scale than I do at the gym. I figure 2 lbs. isn't all that much in the current scheme of things. However, 4 lbs is bigger than I would like. I would do exactly what some one suggested and put a 10 lb weight on it and make sure it is correct. Then adjust if possible.0

My sisters scale had me weigh in 2kgs heavier than I was on mine. I just use mine. My gym one had me a kg lighter and at my 10kg goal last week. Mine has me 900grams over0

:laugh: At least you know it is a scale problem. My weight can flactuates up to 3 lbs in a day in any scale!0

It is a good idea to make sure it is on, but at the same time you should only judge your weight by one scale at the same time. I weight myself every morning with hardly anything on and do this same thing. When I go to the doc I always weight more because I am fully clothed, it is the middle of they day and I have been eating and drinking. Only use one scale!!0

I have a digital scale and I just put 2 five pound weights on it and it wouldn't read anything. Obviously its a minimum and I don't know what that is.0 -

I suggest the tape measure as a more reliable means of progress. I haven't lost a lot of weight from my start, but my waist is a lot smaller.0

Sounds like the scale that I just bought. It reads pretty accurate all the time. I tested it with my Bowflex Selecttech weights, and I chose one of those "in between" weights to be sure since the scale measures in .2 increments. I put the 17.5 pound weight on there and it measured it at 17.6 pounds (since it does not measure the odd numbered fractions) so I would say that's pretty good. Also, it lets me know that the scale rounds up and that I could technically weigh ever so slightly less than it says. :bigsmile:0 -

Except, I did this and my 10 lb weight weighed 10.9 on BOTH SCALES! so the only difference was when I weighed myself. anything without a hearbeat was the same. eeerrrgggg!0 -
I found that my scale at home weighs about a pound and a half higher than the scale at the gym. I use the scale at the gym for my "official" weigh ins. When I weigh at home, I just subtract a pound and a half. I figure the gym scale is probably calibrated on a regular basis... I could be wrong..but.. meh......
Good idea with the weights though.. I think we have some 15 pound dumbbells in the house. Gonna go do that now!

Take a few things into consideration...
When you weigh at home.. is it first thing in the morning? Were you naked or in panties or fully dressed?
If you weigh at home, first thing in the morning, naked, after going to the bathroom....but then at your friends house had already eaten a few times that day AND were fully clothed.. then of course you'll weigh heavier on her scale, and of course you'd weigh heavier on your own scale. The only REAL way to see if they would weigh different, is to put them side by side, and weigh yourself on each of them one right after the other, in EXACTLY the same way.

I'm gonna stick to my home scale because it seems like the gym scale is messed up. I asked on the personal trainers (who I will admit have a major crush on) to measure my body fat since it's been a month since I joined the gym and according to that scale, only lost 2 pounds. I told him that not only do I weigh myself at home after waking up and a trip to the bathroom, but just ate a banana less than 5 minutes earlier. It was also my 3rd meal of the day and up to my 3rd bottle of water and to take my clothes into consideration. While I did lost about 3% of body since starting, I couldn't help but feeling very annoyed by it.
After my workout and shower, I went back to that scale again. This time my clothes are a lot lighter and wasn't wearing any sneakers on. It states I was a few pounds less than what I weigh at home. Something is very shady about that.
Then I went back to my home scale and it's the usual 2-pound weight flux. Isn't that annoying that the gym scale (which is the most reliable one) is either jammed or made it look like you need to take personal training?

sometimes the area where the scale is placed affects your weight. If your scale is in a high topography, it makes you quite lighter. Happens to me all the time...but i could be wrong. :O0

Unless you're looking to get your exact weight, I wouldn't worry about it much. I have the same issue between my home scale and my dr scale...but since my home scale is what I started using to track my weight and what I weigh on each week, that's the one I pay attention to.1
