20kg kettlebell swings

Hi there, I am around 245lbs and I use a 20kg kettlebell in my sessions with my PT. This to me is fine but my dad is certain that I am going to seriously bulk up using this. My PT knows my main aim is to strip fat. Is my Dad right to be worried or will it help to strip the fat?

    Depends on your diet.

You won't "bulk up" unless you're eating surplus calories.

if your in a calorie deficit you wont gain much or any muscle. bulking up is much harder than people think, theres needs to be a conscious effort put into it in 99.9% of cases

That's great, I am in deficit every day by 3-400 cals. So I could continue to increase the weight as I progress to give me a harder workout without bulking. I think my Dad thinks my spare tyre will turn into pure muscle lol.

Kettlebell work is typically done using higher rep sets. Assuming you're following a more traditional format in your training (such as timed sets) you won't be working within the lower rep ranges needed to bulk up.

And lifting progressively heavy weights in a very, very dedicated manner.

OP, it's tough to bulk. People here who do it on purpose can attest that it's not something that happens by accident. It takes proper diet and a strict training schedule. Your kettle bell swings are good for increasing a bit of strength but, if you're doing it for long periods of time (several minutes at a time) then it's more of an aerobic workout designed to burn calories. Tell your dad that he's wrong in whatever way you want (nicely, snarkily or dismissively).

note: snarkily is not a word... but it should be

I normally do a 500m row straight into 10 swing for 3 - 5 sets, or sometime just 50 reps straight depending on how I'm training on the day.

yea might as well. you wont see a ton of progression after the first month of lifting if your in a true deficit though
