LOST 3 POUNDS IN A WEEK…WHY???

Hi everyone!I am not new in MFP, and have been working hard to achieve my small goals. At the moment i am in a maintaining stage keeping eating healthy with some treats and going to the gym 4-5 times a week. Well, last month i started to cut few 100 calories in order to lose couple of pound but nothing happened so i decided to come back again to maintenance, for me a 5'9' woman around 140 pounds is 1500 over the week and 2200 weekends. I like to go out with my friends and boyfriend yeah.
Anyway, last week i couldn't got o the gym due to work commitments and working 12h a day as an anny means stay at home a lot and pick food all day long, but my surprise was when i have weight myself this morning and i was 137 pounds! how can that be possible? I ate about 1700 everyday over the week and more on the weekend, didn't do any exercise. have i lost muscle?

Some of it could have been water weight and still put yourself at a deficient with the exercises.

Nah, you wouldnt have lost 3 lbs of muscle, or much muscle at all, by skipping the gym for a week.
The bodies can be complex machines and defy logic at times! Quite possible you upping your calories and taking a bit of time off from the gym gave your body some signals and gave it the OK to burn in overdrive becuase of the influx of calories but still not eating too much. Kinda like if you get 500 cash in your pocket. Those first 50 dollars spent go alot faster than if you had only 75 in your pocket or how campfire gets bigger when you put more wood on it.

There is some science behind upping calories if you do go too low. I went off my regimine for a week about a month ago. Didnt count or anything and lost 1.4 that week! In looking back I ate more than I had been, yet still had a deficit and I think sometimes the body knows when there is some extra there and burns it faster.

Also what we do one week always doesnt show on the scale for that weigh in. It is quite possibly it is catching up from your previous weeks.

Those are just my thoughts...the bodies are a crazy thing.

Most likely you just lost water weight your body holds onto when you normally work out, it uses it to help repair the muscle, but since you have took the week off, your body doesn't need to hold onto it, so you pee it out. and no your body doesn't go into some special fat burning mode either.

Along those same lines - don't be surprised or disappointed if you put some or all of it back on after a full week back at the gym. Your muscles will be used to the time off - and then require some time and glycogen stores to repair themselves.
