Jus' in case anyone's wondering ... It's my vehicle that's going for Oil Change.

They gave me option and I choose "to wait on". I don't have a ride tomorrow so this is my first time.

What do folks here do while being waited?

Surf the web, cough all over other people, watch bad television that's onscreen.

    Avoid the coffee.

Get to know the guys up front. I've been going to the same Firestone for years and they know and love me. I get in and out faster than most people and I thank them with kolaches and pizzas sometimes.

I thought this was going to go an ENTIRELY different direction...

On topic, if I'm understanding it: I read a book or go for a walk. Last time, I walked to the barber with my son and got his hair cut. Then stopped for fried pickles and a local diner before picking up our vehicle.

When I get car work done, I throw my bike on the rack and ride it home and get the car later. I hate being held captive in waiting areas. If I'm home, no pants/shirt.

I usually have my Kindle in my purse with me for those occasions when I have to wait. I also tend to go first thing in the morning so there usually isn't a very long wait.

I usually carry a book with me and use this downtime to read.

As one of the poster above commented, oil change place have one thing in common - boring television and bad coffee! TV I can avoid, but I sometimes give into craving and have the coffee.

Oil change shouldn't take more than 20 mins if you have an appointment.

I have mine changed. It takes 20 minutes. It costs $19.99. I don't get dirty and I don't have to dispose of the old oil.
