Bread recipes anyone?

I'm looking for a sandwich bread recipe that's under 60 calories per slice and takes under 5 hours. I've tried making 100% whole wheat bread, but it doesn't rise well. Does anyone have a good recipe?

To get the calorie count that low you really need to slice it thin... I use an electric knife, and even then 60 cals a slice would really be tough. Wheat bread should always use white flour in addition to the wheat (otherwise it will be dense), and it's best to weigh your ingredients. This is my go-to sandwich bread recipe: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-basic-whole-wheat-sandwich-bread-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-167267
  • Thanks for the information. The bread recipe seems good. I guess I should worry about the calories if the calories are super healthy.

The slices work out to be 110 calories a piece and we get about 14 slices a loaf. I only use 1 tsp of the yeast and use olive oil instead of shortening. It comes out amazing EVERY. TIME.

Put all wet ingredients in the machine, then flour and and yeast last. Make a little well on top in the flour and put the yeast in there. Also, set the machine to regular loaf, not wheat bread and under bake by 10 min (2 hrs, 50 min). Cut off ends and let bread cool for an hour. Slice. Let slices cool for 30 before freezing!
