CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I quit on November 18, 2010 so I'm only 60 days smoke free thus far. But, LOVING it!

I feel the same as you do though. I had the same excuse one thing at a time. Well, now I feel confident to tackle the next obstacle .... weight!!

I've started training to run for 30 minutes. I've always wanted to run but never could because of the smoking and the weight. I don't know if I'll like it or even keep it up but I certainly want to do it! Yesterday I ran 10 whole minutes! Doesn't sound like alot but it really is a big difference from where I came from - winded going up the stairs.

You can absolutely do it!!! Congratulations and best wishes!!!!

Super great that you quit smoking. Now you can lose the weight with the help of myfitnesspal. I can't tell you how much more aware of my calorie in take I am. Post every single day and weigh often. Don't forget a little exercise! Good luck to you and welcome!
    YOU CAN DO IT!~

Great job on sticking with it! Anyone who has quit for a considerable amount of time realizes that it's a tough journey to undergo. Only to start with another tough challenge of creating an overall healthy lifestyle. I've been smoke free for two years and have been working on eating healthier and replacing my former vice with exercise. Keep posting when moments seem rough and we'll be there to encourage you. Good luck!

    Congratulations!!! Awesome job!!
Working on one thing at a time makes sense to me.
My Hubby and I quit in September and both have put on weight. We are working on taking it off.
It is very motivational to see everyone's posts.

Kudos for sure!!! One thing at a time is a good way to do it. I quit smoking 11+ years ago and tried to cut out my 3 liter per day Mountain Dew habit at the same time. I was bouncing off the walls. Waited a year or so and kicked the caffeine to the curb. Maintained my weight alright until I went back to driving OTR. When I got the urge to lose the weight I cut down on portion sizes and didn't worry about eating clean or even balanced. I dropped from 260 to 215 doing that. During that time I also cut out deep fried food. Then it was my home baked goodies. One thing at a time works for me. One day at a time as well, being a friend of Jimmy K. for 13+ years. On the running subject, I hated it but knew it was a necessary evil to break through the plateau. Little by little I built my mileage and started stringing days in-a-row. Within 6 months I was running 6 miles every day in about 65 - 68 minutes. Now I am working toward running a half-marathon. Keep pluggin'!!
  • Hi, I also stopped smoking 1 year ago, and I have put on 2stone 6 pounds. I want to try hard this time to lose some weight and although Im trying Im not sure if I will get bored of the same meals. My imagination is not great as Im a meat eater and I've decided to stop eating meat (where I can) and I've swapped it for fish, veg, fruit and crisp breads. I hope we can cheer each other on.

Hey Lynn - good for you! I just celebrated my 2-year anniversary of quitting and belive me, I know everything you are going through! I dieted BEFORE I quit and lost 15 lbs. Gained all of them back and 10 more. Fact is I was noshing to replace the smokes etc, etc. But now I joined MFP and I really feel accountable. I am sick of hearing that "so what if you're heavy - you quit smoking"! While that's nice - I want to apply my same attititude about quitting to losing this weight. I statred the Couch to 5k program and I really like it. I'm down 8 lbs since my highest weight! ippee. You can do it. Friend me if you like! I love to cook so I really work at fun food to eat so I don't get bored or down - Cheers - Carol
