do you lose weight at the rate that the site predicts?

When you enter your food for the day and it says "if everyday were like today, you would weigh XXX in 5 weeks", is this accurate? Do you find that you lose weight faster, slower, or right on track with this estimate?
Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same thing, I've only been on here a week, so I wanted to know how accurate that was!

    I think this may vary
a)you dont eat exactly the same amount of cals every day
    b) every person is different and you know it:D

But i know that the general estimation here is 2lbs per week and that IS my normal and average weight loss when im eating like this.

I almost Always lose more weight than they predict.
  • I haven't... but I set my weight loss for a pound a week and before the holidays, after 8 weeks, I was down 8 pounds.

I think you have to eat and exercise the exact same way every single day to actually meet that prediction... which is highly unlikely to happen.
  • Overall I lose as much but at a faster pace. I am supposed to lose "8 lbs by Feb 13th" I think it will be faster.

It's usually pretty accurate for me, even though I don't eat the same thing or the same amounts of food every day. I think it's because I weigh EVERYTHING I put into my body, cause I'm a crazy lady.

There are SO many variables, especially for women, that I never like the statements that if you do this, this and that you will loose this amount - sometimes it is more and sometimes it is less. It depends on where you are in your weight loss journey, how much weight you have to loose, what your starting ratio is of fat to muscle, etc. I have lost 150 pounds and have 8 to go so I am near the end and the weight is coming off waaaaaaaaaaay slower now, like i started MFP in June and have lost 22 pounds which is just over 3 a month.
  • Only when I stick to it 100%, and follow the amount of exersize that I said I would do for the week. That includes adding calories back that I had burnt from working out. So if I get 1600, and I ate 1600, burnt 600 in a day through working out/running, I made sure to take back in the 600, so a total of 2200 calories. I've really learned that to do this properly that you need to do it the healthiest way possible.

    Good luck!

So far yes. And before I joined MFP I used a spreadsheet and some calorie estimaters to track everything myself and found that to be surprisingly good at predicting rate of weight loss too. But there are plenty of variables that can throw things off here and there, like hormonal shifts, too much sodium now and then, not drinking enough, even not sleeping enough. Overall though, it's been pretty accurate for me.

I have only been doing this for 10 days and I have lost 3 pounds so far, I know not a lot, but if I keep going at this pace I would say the 2# per week is accurate. But you have to be honest with yourself and enter the exact calories and really push yourself on the exercise and stay obsessed about not being obese!

My predictor is different everyday depending on how I ate, how much I exercised etc.. I have been losing for the most part and some weeks are better than others. I am in this for the long haul and I know I will have some periodic setbacks.. I am okay with that because overall, my habits have gotten better

It's definitely a big motivator. When I first joined the site in 09, I definitely lost what it said I would, but now that I'm getting close to my goal weight... not so much

It's not entirely accurate for me - I'm normally off by 2-4 lbs.

I lose weight slower than many I think because of my thyroid issue. I really need to have my meds adjusted.

I do like the feature though - I find it motivating!

I think the biggest variable is the calories logged under exercise. I NEVER enter the calorie count my HRM gives me. I take between 1/4 and 1/5 off most of the time. I also try to only eat back between 1/2 and 2/3 of the entered calories (though I haven't done so well lately.) If we could get really accurate calorie burn data, then the predictions would be accurate as well.

No, I am set up at 1 lb a week, but have lost about 2 lb per week for the last 3 months. Not sure why.

I don't loose in accordance with my "in 5 weeks thingy" cause some days I'm way under (due to lots of exercise) and sometimes right on cals. BUT if I go through and add up all my deficits (from my maintenance rate) for a week it nearly always equals exactly what I lost which is quite fun! x
