When I was in 9th grade, I lost 20lbs in 4 months, was 5ft 4in, and weighed 117lbs. I was able to maintain that weight for about a year. Since then, (3 years) I've gained around 60lbs. I'm 5ft 6in, and weigh 175. (I weighed 163 last week, but gained 12 pounds in 1 week somehow :P)

I've been struggling with weight gain my entire life, and cannot remember the last time I wasn't on a diet. I started dieting when I was in 3rd grade, which I know is too young, but it is what it is.

A little bit about me:
I don't eat any fried food. If I eat out, it's once a month. I only drink water...although not enough as I always find out when I'm donating blood. I workout 4-5 days a week, and have the stamina to keep my heart rate at 190bpm for an entire hour. I have irregular periods, and, since I'm 18, my doctor's checking my hormone levels. But...I still keep gaining weight.

(I developed mild scoliosis around the same time I started gaining weight when I had a growth spurt freshmen year, but I don't think that has anything to do with my weight gain.)

I don't know what to do. I've always thought I was overweight, even when my parents said I wasn't, but now it's gotten to the point where, I know I TRULY am, and I'm disgusted with myself and barely want to leave the house. I'm 18 for pete's sake; I'm not supposed to feel this way.

*sidenote* I have no idea how I gained 12 lbs this past week. At first I thought it was water retention, but it still hasn't gone down. I literally worked out 6 days that week too, and didn't change my diet at all, so I have no idea what's wrong.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I have the entire summer, and want to get this under control.

    Do you count calories?

12 pounds is an astronomical gain in a week and is down to something other than fat, if not water then I don't know what, maybe inaccurate weighing, different time of day? Clothes on vs clothes off?

Your profile says you've been a member here for about a year and a half. Have you been logging at all and using the site? Would you open your diary so others can give you informed advice and possibly help you?

I've tried counting calories in the past, but found that when I do, I end up restricting like crazy and things just go downhill from there.....

I'm hoping the 12 pounds is just water weight since it's really warm out? I've tried every type of weighing scenario, and it still says I gained 10-12 pounds from the previous time.

Unfortunately, I haven't been using this website for my tracking. The app would never open on my iPod, so I use a different app!

Just find a calorie value which has you losing 1-2 lbs a week and you're good to go.

How long is it since you weighed in 12 pounds heavier?

I weight myself every day, so this morning! I weighed 163 on May 25th, and weighed 175 on June 1st! This morning I weighed 174.

I honestly don't know then, same scale? same place (bathroom)?

Your scale is probably inaccurate if it shows such a large weight gain in a short time (assuming you are using the same scale). If I use different scales, I get different weights even just stepping from one scale to another.

That said, I did know someone who ate while sleepwalking... and she would finish off an entire jar (think Costco-sized jar) of peanut butter while sleepwalking. She actually had to have her roommate hide the peanut butter jars or lock the cabinet and keep the key so she couldn't get to it at night. She also was confused about why she kept gaining weight until someone saw her sleepwalking with a jar of peanut butter. (Oh, and they kept noticing the huge jars would be empty in under a day... that was probably a big hint too)

Hi! I'm curious to know about your water intake? Before I started drinking water, I had huge weight shifts. It's true that none were 12 pounds though (8 was my highest). Do you watch your sodium? Could it be time of the month related?

I really think though that you have a medical issue at play here.

Feel good about yourself no matter what you weigh. There is so much more to life than weight, you know? :flowerforyou:
