High School Wrestlng question

My 15 year old son is a wrestler for our high school. It is the off season and, other than a 5 day camp this summer, he has no wrestling events. He wants to work out to stay in his 115-120 weight bracket and tone up. Does anyone have a good idea of what exercises he should be doing?

Run Stairs
Lift.
That's what I did.0 -
Wilsoje74, I will have to ask about that. I know the football team is doing stuff this summer but I have no idea if it is open to other athletes. Unfortunately we live 30 minutes from town so going in to use the gym or track every day can be hard for us. Luckily we live on a farm in the country so he has lots of opportunities to strength train (hay stacking is hard work!! lol)0

When I was high school we took 45lb plates and bench pressed them as many times as we could. For hours.
That's probably not the right way, but it should taught us mental strength and endurance.
Honestly, I would try a wrestling forum.0 -
My son runs track and cross country but also plays other sports and visa versa. His whole track team consisted of a dozen "track" guys, all the wrestling guys and some football, basketball & soccer guys just looking to keep in shape so running will definitely help there. My son's BFF is a wrestler and they do a lot of stuff together, run marathons, skate, swim. Keeping active, lifting weights to stay strong, and getting some serious cardio to keep the fat off is important. In any case, he might have to go up a weight bracket next year since he's young and will continue to grow so I wouldn't let him stress too much about the numbers. Just make sure he is a healthy weight for his age and height.0

Do you mind if I ask ( which is what we do, just before we go ahead and ask, anyways ) how tall your son is?0 -
I would ask his coach!0

OK, thanks. My son is just 16, and at 5'8" he's pretty thin at about 145 lbs. So, I was wondering if your son was already well underweight at 115-ish. I'm not gonna go checking any charts.... but I'll assume that he's not skinny to the point of being unhealthy. I shouldn't have doubted you in the first place. :blushing:0 -
Squats, stairs, sled pulls.
If you are on a farm, moving hay around will do wonders.0 -

5'8" would be a miracle in this house!! LOL. My hubby is 5'4" and I am 5' 1". We are a bunch of pygmies!! :laugh:0 -
Hill sprints. Run up the hill as fast as you can, walk down, rinse, repeat.
So many wrestlers run marathons for conditioning, but what good is that if you are rolling the mat with a guy who can break into a scramble every 20 seconds?0 -
Thanks or all the ideas. My oldest (the 15 year old) and his 13 year old brother are both off to Iowa for wrestling camp this week. They both worked some of the suggestions you gave into a schedule for here at the house.0
