 Hi everyone I am sorta scared of taking birth control and gaining back any weight I have lost. My doctor perscribed it because me and my husband have been married for four years and because of recent health problems ( a rare heart condition) didn't want me to get pregnant until this is taken care of. I started the birth control and it has made me deathly sick. Even though it has only been 2 weeks that I have been on it I do not feel comfortable on it. I also noticed hair loss and I have gained 5 lbs this week and I have been sticking to my diet.....does this make any sense?

You should discuss your concerns with your doctor. I personally never had any side affects from birth control. And while some may attribute weight gain to them, it is not always the case. In fact, I was slimmest when I was on them. But that doesn't mean they don't affect you in a different way.

Like I said, I would discuss this with your doctor especially if you are so uncomfortable. Perhaps there are other forms you can try. There are many options out there and maybe a diffirent one would work better for you.

It's just water weight. This is a huge hormonal fluctuation, and it'll probably get worse before it gets better because it takes a cycle or to in order to fully build the hormone levels in your body. If you still don't like it, your doc can always give you a different one. I've been on it for about 5 years because I have a lot of problems with it, and I've tried 5 different pills! The first dose I was on was too high, and then the interim pills were too low...now I am taking a generic of desogen and it's great, only $15 a month and it's just enough to keep everything normal. Your gyno will work with you until you're comfortable with it.

    What form are you taking?
Birth control is a hormon that tells your body that it is carring a child.
Different ones can have side effects that are o.k. to some and not to others.
I would say erping up your socks, having hair lose and weight gain means that you need to try a different one.
NOW!! Do not wait, and do not let your doctor guilt you into waiting on this! I can not tell you how many women let their doctors get away with this one! If you can not function properly when taking this your body is trying HARD to get rid of it. Hince erping and hair lose. Do yourself a favor and take something else. ASAP and not a minute later.
Sounds to me like the doseage is WAY too high.

I'll be honest and say that I am not a big birth control fan. I took it for six months and it made me sick also. It was not worth it to me (plus all the other side effects it can have long term). That was almost five years ago. There are alternative methods that do not involve birth control to keep from getting pregnant. We've been doing it for five years with alternatives, and we have one child ,and he came from trying, so if I can help in anyway, send me a message!

Birth control hormone levels vary depending on the patient. I was a lunatic on birth control and unfortunately you don't seem to have this option, but I went to a different form of birth control. It can take 3 months for your body to get used to the birth control, just like how most women experience morning sickness for at least the first trimester of pregnancy.

You absolutely need to talk to your doctor and discuss the concerns and whether or not you need a lower dose birth control pill. Lower dose does not necessarily mean that you won't experience discomfort. I wish you luck, this can take several trial and error prescriptions before you find the right one for you but you will.
  • My sister had to try about 6 different birth control pills until she found one that suited her. The "normal" range of hormone levels is HUGE, so really, try different ones until you find one that suits. I dont have any problem with mine, and the pill relieves PMS, cramping, you get really light flow and you can take it straight through and skip your period altogether sometimes if you like (say for a special event or holiday). When you find the right one it can be ok.

I agree with other posters. Sounds like you need to try a different pill.....I never had any side effects from taking the pill.....
