How long did it take?

Hello everyone!
Just a little inquiry on losing weight, I was wondering on how long it took you to lose 25/30lbs if you have lost that amount and how much weight you lose a week on average.
Thank you!

I lost 30 pounds in 4 months.
I started in mid January at 5'4" weighing 167 lbs. And ended in April at 135-137 lbs. I've recently hopped back on the weight loss wagon to lose a little more.
My weight loss was far from linear, some weeks I lost 3 pounds and some weeks I lost half a pound. The first week I lost 7 pounds lol.0 -
It's going to be different for everyone, depending on many factors such as how much they needed to lose at the start, any metabolic factors that might be in play such as thyroid or PCOS issues, and so on - just fair warning. If you have 100+ to lose then 30 will almost always come off much faster than if your goal is to lose a grand total of 30 pounds.
For me I started out morbidly obese at 256 pounds with 110-ish to lose, and lost my first 30 in about 3 months.0 -
I lost 30 pounds in about 5 months. But I wasn't too big to begin with, only about 40 pounds overweight. More bigger you are faster you will lose.0

So far I have lost 22 Lbs in 11 weeks.0

It took me about three months. Pretty consistent loss of about 2 lbs a week, definitely not linear...weight would hold on for two to three days then...whooosh 1.5lbs down....then I'd gain half a lb, it would hold for a day or two..then.....whoosh again....another drop of 1.5lbs
Expect fluctuations but a good trend downward.
Good luck and stay dedicated, you can do it!0 -
Yeah, lots of factors go into how long it takes to lose 25-30 pounds....not just how much you have to lose, but also how dedicated you are to your nutrition plan AND how well that nutrition plan works for you. Some of the journey is trial and error in learning what works best for you. The key is to be as consistent as possible in making healthy choices and believe that you are making progress...regardless of what the scale says.
I've lost 45ish pounds as of this morning, but the loss has hardly been linear. I believe I lost 12 pounds in January, about 3 pounds in February (even though I was doing pretty much the same thing I did in January), about 12 pounds in each of March and April, and about 5 pounds in May. Some weeks I lost 4 pounds and some weeks I lost less than half a pound. No real rhyme or reason for why the weeks were different and I didn't sweat it. Sometimes the body needs to adjust and sometimes you're retaining more water, but I told myself in February and again in May that I know I'm making progress even when the scale isn't moving as much.
Again, the key is simply to make a commitment to making healthy choices. The weight will come off in time. If you start stressing about how long it will take, then the journey is more difficult....and its also a reflection that you've simply decided to diet instead of making a lifestyle change/commitment to health. If you've truly committed to a lifestyle change, who cares how long it takes to get the weight off because you're not going to stop making healthy choices once you achieve your goal....you'll just learn how to maintain it in a healthy way....but you're still making the same healthy choices.0 -
First three months i was extremely aggressive and averaged almost 0.5 lbs per day...0

I've lost 40 pounds since mid-January. Some weeks I lose 3 1/2 pounds, some weeks I lose 2 pounds, and some weeks I lose .6 pounds. My goal is 1.5 pounds per week.0

In January I was 186, and last week's weigh in put me at 156ish (I'm about to start my period, so I am skipping this week's weigh in). I started to lose weight in late February/early March.0

Everyone is different obviously, but there is a decent calculator for anyone who is interested. It'll tell you how long to lose weight, how much weight you'll lose over a piece of time, or how many calories you need to burn daily to hit a goal.

A year. I lost some months 2lb a week and later 1lb a week. I now lose 0.5-0.25 lb a week.0

I've lost 15lbs in less than 3 months. I'm on track to hit 20lbs lost within the next month, if things continue as they have. I aimed for .5lb/week, but I've lost more through exercise and whatnot.0

I am older--so it took me longer. I let 25 pounds sneak up on me, by my refusal to get on the scale for several years. So I took off about 18 pounds in the first 6 months, then hit a plateau for about a year. Then I joined MFP and started counting my calories, and I bought a Jawbone UP that I wear to track my steps, and I can also add in workouts on UP--and it syncs with MFP so I know exactly how many calories I am consuming and how many I am burning.
I have 7 pounds to go--and it's taken a little over 2 years. BUT, make notice that people who have just a little weight to lose, are going to lose it slower than someone who is considered obese.
If someone is used to eating 3000+ calories a day--it's pretty easy for them to eliminate a thousand calories per day. Where as someone who is eating 2000 calories a day that has to cut back to 1200 or a little higher it is harder. Therefore, someone who is used to eating a lot is going to lose weight faster than someone who is accustomed to eating less.
Remember a pound is 3500 calories. So even if you have a 20 or so pounds to lose--don't expect to take off more than a pound a week--because of the required 1200 calories minimum to keep your body from going into starvation mode, making it all the harder to lose,
A pound a week is still 52 pounds lost in a year, 2 pounds a week is still a 104 pound loss in a year. If you have 80 to 100 and over pounds to lose, you're going to take off weight quickly at first, then you will start to hit plateau's as you continue to lose. Just never give up on your goal and you will eventually get there.0 -
I would say it took me 3 months for my first 30. I assume it will take me double that to lose this final 300

9ish months total. I'm female, 31 yo
It has taken me 5 months to lose almost 15 lbs. So, another 5 months and I'll have 30 total down. I'm currently only 20 lbs overweight according to BMI scales0 -
Output - Input = storage/loss. Keep track of both, and be as honest as possible. Lost 40 lbs in 5 mo.0

As everybody says, it varies hugely. I suggest that you not try to figure out WHEN you will reach your goal and just track your food day by day. I have found that setting dates to achieve weight loss is a self defeating practice. If I was very good and stuck to my diet and did not make my goal, it made me feel even more frustrated.
That said started dieting Feb 1 2014 and I have lost nearly 22 lbs. It is VERY SLOW I weigh myself everyday, some days I am up and some days I am down, but I only record the days I go down, because that too alleviates the frustration.
I strongly urge you not to set date goals. Set weight goals and patiently, patiently keep tracking and EVENTUALLY you will get there.0 -
The first 33 lbs took me exactly 12 weeks. Went from 250 to 217. And it's been a pretty even weight loss, usually 1.5 - 2 lbs a week, and randomly a couple 4-5lb losses seemingly out of nowhere.
Another 37 lbs to go, which I expect to start coming off much slower as I get thinner. The last time I had a major weight loss, once I dropped below 200, it felt like the next 20 lbs took forever to come off.0 -
Started counting calories 2 weeks ago and i've lost 7-8ish lbs, 4ish a week, though I suspect that's mostly just water weight. Hoping to shed another 10lbs within the next month! if i can manage to keep this up..0
-
It took me four months at a -1.5 pound deficit. If it weren't for a stall right after I hit 20, I'd have had it done about three weeks quicker.0
-
two years ago...it took me 3 months to lose 24 lbs0

I've been doing this full-time (well except for one vacation week) since the end of January. I'm down 26 pounds as of today. Started at 255, I'm currently 229.
It hasn't been constant, AT ALL. Some weeks I wouldn't lose a thing, some weeks I'd lose 3 pounds. It all depended on how much I was eating and how hard I was working out. But there were some weeks where I did well but only lost maybe half a pound.
So yeah. About five months.0 -

^^^this. I think having a goal weight is better than a goal date. I realize that for some people it helps with motivation, and if you are one of those people, then maybe it will work for you, but I have also found that you need to use things other than the scale to determine if you're where you want to be. Muscle weighs more than fat, and clothing companies never agree on what number is a size. For example, I know for a fact that I can fit into Old Navy size 12, but most of my other 12s do not fit. Some of my 14s are too big, others fit just right.
The biggest motivation for me personally is knowing that I have been at my goal weight before, and I was able to maintain that weight for 2 years. It was also less than 10 years ago, so I know it is possible to get there. I also realize that I did not gain the 30 pounds I am trying to lose over night, so I won't lose it over night. I just hope that it doesn't take me 10 more years to get back to where I was in 2009.0 -
It has taken me eight months to lose almost 50lbs. I was losing 2-3 per week at first, but after doing research realized that it's healthier and more sustainable to lose at a slower pace. So I set my goals so I would lose about a pound a week, and now I'm aiming for half pound each week until the last 10 or so come off.0

A year. I only had about 30 pounds to lose to begin with, though.0

This for me also. Maintaining my muscle was more important that losing the weight.0
