I don't choose low cal options. I work out more and watch my intake the day of (and eat a big meal before going out), so I can have what I want! I'll prelog my drink choices, so I can make sure I hit my macros, and see how much additional working out I'll have to do to fit them.
Have fun at your friend's birthday. Plan ahead so you can spend more time celebrating, and less time worrying about cals. :)

My drink of choice is wine, but it is high in calories.

So, the best option is a spirit with a low cal mixer. Gin with a diet tonic is nice and refreshing. Lots of ice and lemon - and a glass can last a while. Rum with diet coke?

A good trick is to stick to the spirits with diet mixers- but every couple of drinks just have the mixer. You will still feel part of the group - and not even miss the alcohol as the taste is similar.

Enjoy it anyway. It's good to have a treat and a break from the norm.
  • Low-calories options like spirits with diet coke, diet lemonade or slim-line tonic are good for just keeping the calories down.

Are there any drinks that you're happy with less of though? For me, I find if I drink wine, I'm content with a glass or two, because I'll be sipping it longer. They're higher calorie, but I consume less calories overall in having two small glasses of wine than I would drinking something lower calorie, that I will drink faster and order more of.

I'm not a huge fan of club soda so I go with vodka and diet coke. Only about 60-80 calories depending on the vodka strength. Just stay away from all the premix bottle drinks. Plymouth Sloe Gin on ice is also only about 70 cals.

I think Jose Cuervo has the most bang the amount of calories in it.

I'd go with that with a little lime...

    Red wine
    -Approximately 125 calories/5 oz
-Sip and savor without worrying about it getting too warm (beer) or watered down (cocktail)

This site http://getdrunknotfat.com/ has a handy table to a ton of different alcohols and the calorie counts in ounces. Keep in mind, a shot is 1.5 ounces, so some of the counts could be higher or lower.

My usual safety drinks when I am dieting is either nursing a light beer (bud select usually which is only 55 calories so I can have a few without feeling too bad), a martini if I know I am only having one (about 120 calories depending on how it is made) or whiskey and diet coke (less than 100 calories). The only drink I stay away from is daiquiris because I was told that they are about 50 calories an ounce! There are a ton of different options that you can opt for depending on how many calories you feel comfortable using. Have fun!
