Newbie facing a special dinner out tomorrow

Hi everyone.
I joined MFP exactly one week ago and am seven days along the road to the new me. I am doing the Mayo Clinic Diet (MCD), and so far things are going great. This diet starts with a two-week "jump start" during which, among other things, you don't allow yourself any of the "bad stuff" (my words), like sugar and alcohol. This makes sense to me because I recognize I have / had some really bad habits to break.
So, the MCD says I shouldn't eat out at all during the first two weeks. Again, this makes sense to me. BUT, tomorrow is my 25th wedding anniversary, and darling hubby wants to go out to dinner. I'm sure tips for eating out have been discussed at length here before, but I wasn't here then and I NEED THEM NOW. Oops. Sorry to shout, but I'm worried and desperate--want to have a good time but don't want to jeopardize my progress (physically and mentally).
Looking for advice and support...please?

I would say to ask your hubby for a heads up on where you will be eating & then google the menus with nutrition facts. There are tons of websites out there with nutrition facts to most chain restaurants. Otherwise I'd say, enjoy it. You only have a 25th wedding anniversary once! You can always compensate the next day by not eating as much or saving up some of your calories/fat/carbs/protein for the dinner.0

Oh and congrats on 25 years together! Not many people can say they've made it that far these days & it's always nice to hear those that have made it that far! I'm 10 years into my marriage & I look forward to 15+ more years w/ my hubby!0

Congrats on your 25th!!
There's no reason why you can't eat out and eat healthily at the same time
When I go out some of the things I do:-
Ask for Grilled\Broiled instead of Fried.
Have dressings on the side, avoid things cooked in butter\cream etc
Avoid the bread basket\bread sticks\dough balls.
Order a jug of Tap Water with Ice and Lemon for the table.
Give yourself a treat, 1 glass of Champagne or Wine isn't going to wreck your plans, just take take care with what you eat leading up to and after the day. Oh, and make sure you eat something on the day, that way you won't "go nuts" and overeat to bursting at dinner! )0 -
Congratulations on your anniversary! My husband and I have a standing date night every 2 weeks, so I have a few ideas for you.
I always want to have fun and not obsess about food when I'm out. I am not familiar with the particular diet you are on, but maybe some of it will help.
-I exercise more on those days--making sure i build up lots of extra exercise calories to eat later.
- I try to eat light during the day to save the calories for later
-I drink red wine--we typically share a bottle, but if you are trying to restrict alcohol this week, maybe order 1 glass and drink it really slowly. You'll probably be sad celebrating by saying no (or at least I would )
-I usually order the fish special when we go out. This is usually really delicious and different than the boring fish I make at home, but a lower calorie option than most of what is on the menu. With a nice simple salad before that for appetizer, you should feel like you are still eating like a queen. Be cautious w bread they give you beforehand. If you want a dessert, try a cappachino, or just a coffee w/biscotti, or something light like that to still feel like you are indulging but not in a huge way.
Good luck!!0 -
Thank you, all of you, for your advice and support. I really appreciate it!!
