I have a lot of bean based confusion!!!

A recipe I want to make calls for a 400g tin of black beans. I can't get pre cooked in a tin, so have had to get dried instead.

Two questions:

- what weight of dried beans will I need to soak and cook to make the equivalent of a 400g tin?
- What weight of beans is actually in a 400g tin, by the time you drain the liquid... and is this something I should bear in mind when cooking however many beans I end up needing?

Thanks!!

How precise do you need to be on the recipe? I would cook the beans and weigh them after draining most of the water and adjust the recipe if you get the wrong texture.

I had a look at a can of kidney beans. The drained weight is 240gms - so a lot of liquid in there.

Perhaps weigh out 200gm of dried beans - then re-weigh after soaking?

Wow, that is a lot of water weight! Thanks for the suggestions, I will just get it as close as I can to what is probably in a can, and hope for the best! Its my first time using this recipe, so on the bright side I wont be able to tell the difference between dried and canned beans :)
