Breastfeeding?

How do I adjust my calorie intake for breastfeeding? My baby is eight months old and breastfeeds 4-5 times a day and normally twice at night (some of the daytime feeds are just "snacks" because he also eats 3 meals a day). Should I just adjust my activity level? Or should I add an exercise called Breastfeeding? I don't want to cut my calories too drastically and affect my milk supply. I plan to breastfeed until Son is one year.

Any other breastfeeding moms out there?

  • Hi you need to take in between 300 and 500 extra calories to support breastfeeding, so would make a new exercise called breastfeeding and make it 500 calories if you don't notice any weight loss then drop say 50 calories, but don't go lower than 300!
I breastfed my son until he was 14 months, during that time i maintained my before pg weight but when he stopped feeding ........ well here i am lol i put on almost a stone in 6 months! Good luck x

One of the ladies on my friends list is breastfeeding and she adds hers in as exercise each day. :) The above poster is right on.....you need an additional 300 - 500 kcal per day when breastfeeding. Good luck!
  • Thanks so much ladies! Feel free to add me as a friend. I joined right after I had my baby, but was inactive until now. I could use the support!
