Lucky Escape - anyone else?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first thread, no trolls please!!! Ha Ha!

I just wanted to tell some people about my lucky escape this morning! I went to the shops on my way into work to buy some fruit to go with my breakfast. I wondered round the shop, got my fruit and then noticed a new chocolate bar that I thought would be really nice. I put it in my basket. I then saw some biscuits, in they went too.

I went to the self service till and put all my items through and as I looked in my bag to pay - no purse!!! I couldn't buy any of the food at all. I count that as a luck escape, even though I missed out on my fruit.

It really made me realise I didn't need the chocolate or the biscuits and has set me back on track for the day!

What tempts you? Has anyone else had a luck escape that set them back on track for the day?

Just a bit of fun really, wanted to know what other people found too tempting and how they overcome them!

Cheese on toast, pizza, Chinese takeaway - especially the sticky sauce ones!, cakes, a steak and kidney pie, a pork pie, a large cheese board with biscuits, crisps, original Pringles, a mint aero; oh to have a mint aero.

What prevents me from having all or any of these? The number of calories at the bottom of my diary turning red and knowing that for everyday I keep that day is weight lost. I don't weigh daily but use this assumption and feel great when I click "complete this day" and receive the results of what I'll weigh in five weeks. Yes, I know that at best that's a guess by MFP but for the few seconds each evening when it happens I see a weight less than I am now and feel positive. Last night it showed that in five weeks I would be overweight - as an obese person being overweight is a huge milestone.

    :)

Yesterday I had just gotten into the car to go to McDonalds and thought "hmmm, I think I want to get a shake, too". I looked it up on MFP...500+ calories? Well, that definitely wasn't going to happen!

Absolutely! Having to write it down and the risk of seeing that shameful red! :)

But yes temptation is everywhere and always has been I live in a beach community and there are chip trucks and ice cream shops and wineries and cheese festivals.....tasty treats and indulgences everywhere. But I read on someone's profile a quote about "not giving up on what you really want for what you want right now" something like that......anyway....that's what runs through my mind as I drive past that chip truck with my foot firmly on the accelerator.

I used to be a big drinker. contributes to a lot of calories. On my birthday this year I drank over 2000 calories of alcohol. I have decided to quit till I get to my weight goal.

Last night the ice cream man came around my street, I got my money ready and everything and waited for him to come closer to my house. I finally saw him coming up the street but by the time I got the front door open, he had already passed.

A good place for my first post, to complement your first thread. Congrats on your lucky escape!

My brain is a sneaky thing. I resolve to eat better, and if I don't watch it like a hawk, before I know it I'm eyeballs deep in a bag of Cheetos wondering how I got there.

Lucky escape of the day: Last night I asked a family member to finish off a treat I bought and luckily she did, otherwise it would still be staring me in the face today and I might not have resisted.

Same thing happened to me about a month ago.. only it was a soft serve cone.. 190 calories.. for that.. seriously?

    I don't think so.

Thanks Everyone for the helpful motivation! I will try and keep in mind the dreaded red when I am in the shops! I am getting married in July and need to be able to do my dress up!

Beer for me too. I have cut down but really am aiming for a quit.

I went out to get some beers. I went to the bank (at night) and ALL ATMs were down so I went to another bank, the same. So I went to the shop with the intent of putting them on my debit card and their machine was also down. I went to another shop and it was the same situation. The third shop didn't accept cards. I went home.

Bacon, Pork Pies and Beer for me.

As I sit here at work looking at the salad on my desk. the cold dead cucumber staring blankly back at me through its tupperware coffin....I can't help but think that 500 meters down the road is a pub that sells bacon cobs, pork pies and a decent pint.

A nice pub, with comfy seats, a friendly atmosphere and a welcoming landlord...

    stupid salad.

Anyway....that's my lucky escape...not going to the pub.

Every day at around 9pm I crave McDonalds. The only way I have found to stop myself going and getting it is to put my pj's on as soon as I get in from work. The fact that i'd have to get fully dressed again to go out gives me that extra few minutes to realise I don't actually need the food. Silly I know but it seems to work for me.

is it bad that i've totally driven through a macdonalds drive thru in my pyjamas because i couldn't be bothered to get dressed? lol

I don't have a particular lucky escape to share right now tho :( mine mostly all involve my thinking i want some junk food and being too lazy to either cook it or walk to the shop

Going into a shop to buy a chocolate cake, and having my card declined, lol. I thought I had enough left in the card, but evidently there must be a pending transaction.

We have to have lollies at my work place.

I try to deliberately buy ones I myself don't like, so I am not tempted to snack on them
