Neuropathy and Exercise

I experience Neuropathy and nerve pain due to my T1Diabetes and Cerebral Palsy. I'm contimplating incorporating stretching/yoga into my exercise routine. I know it's a great thing to stretch before a workout-- but does exercising consistently help the pain and numbness? I'm only curious because my doctor has suggested putting me on Lyrica for these issues. I am usually against all meds/OTC's/vaccines etc., and believe the body can be healed through much safer and natural forms. Results have been given from my Endocrinologist recently; with kidney and liver tests on good standing.

What is your experience with Lyrica and Nerve pain, and what would you suggest to a Beginner?
I would have resorted to doing online research, but I'm interested in hearing from the experienced and their
true results. I don't trust everything on the Internet, and not every PCP knows what they're doing either.

With all due respect, I love my Doctors... But I want to make sure I'm making the right decision(s).
I've only been alive for 21 years, and don't want to harm my body anymore than it has been. ;)

Thanks so much for your input :)

My neuropathy pain comes from inflamed surrounding tissues, so it may be different, but yoga and anything gentle that gets the blood flowing really helps. I do more strenuous things when not in a flare-up. But I think yoga does incredible things for the nervous system compared to normal exercise. Pool work is great, too, for blood flow and gentle exercise that can be done often for folks who get flare-ups from a lot of types of exercise.

I do have some numbness in a couple of extremities and I haven't found that to get better with anything. That on me is permanent demyelination from an old disease, so again your mileage may vary (and I hope it does!) :)

I like Neurontin for nerve pain. I take a combination of pain killers and muscle relaxants, too, but the gabapentin helps stop the tingling, awful neuropathy pain part. I need a combination, though. My pain killers are pretty crucial for flare-ups. I'm not on a high dose of gabapentin, though (side effects start putting me off going higher). You might try a little of that. I think it has a better side effect profile than Lyrica. Good luck!

I'm pretty late to the party, but I wanted to say a very big YES to your question about the yoga/stretching--I hope you've started.

I have CP and have always had severe pain. When I get into the habit of doing yoga/pilates/stretching on a daily basis my quality of life just goes through the roof. On a scale of 1-10 my daily regular pain is a 5-6 with regular spikes. to 8-9. When I am moving and stretching regularly I would say the everyday pain drops to a 3.
