My work is stressful, frustrating and boring. To keep myself focus, I have to continue eating... The only good thing about my job is it pays well, so I cannot just quit it. I am trying to change jobs, however, to be able to get a new job, I need to spend a lot of my spare time to study, and I found myself cannot focus on study either (because it is boring :( ) without eating snacks.....

Already gained 20+ lbs by eating snacks to be able to focus on work/study, what should I do?

I tried to switch to healthier snacks, like nuts, apple chips. But I ended up eating too much of them, and still gain weight... Any suggestions? Thank you!

Try crunchy vegies. I'm sitting at work now with a zip lock bag full of raw cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, red and orange pepper strips, cucumber slices.

Well things like nuts are good, but the calories just add up sooooo fast if you feast on them.

I hear un-buttered popcorn is a good snack, but have not personally tried it. Baked Kale Chips might be a good alternative if you like that sorta things.

Honestly though, if the chewing aspect is what keeps you focused, perhaps try and find some really good gum?
  • Thank you for the suggestions. However, I don't like veges or unbutter popcorns, I like flavorful snack: potato chips, beef jerkies, chocolates, nuts, caramel popcorns(yeah, even buttered popcorns cannot satisfy me)...

I tried chew gums, it works half of the time, after I chew 1-2 of gums, I just want to eat real evil snacks....

This is me too! When I study/ do a course, I like to eat too! Helps with focus ??!
I am starting my health visiting in September....so I am dreading this bit of it!
Gonna try to drink low cal juices! Fortunately, I do like veggies! Got low calorie dip recipes too, that I am gonna try!
Hope you find a solution to this ....good luck!

I have quite a boring job and I eat at my desk too. Usually fruit salad, protein shakes, rice cakes and occasionally some nuts or seeds. You cant just sit and eat potato chips and chocolates all day.

I would suggest having a proper meal with a lot of protein before work or studying, and to only keep a small amount of healthy snacks around.

I think 99% of students can relate to this haha. When the work load is boring...food kinda helps to make you concentrate? Like others have said stick to healthy and low calorie snacks. I try my best to stay away from high fat and high sugar foods because they end up making me feel sluggish.

I was going to second the raw veggies, but since you don't like them, you could roast some chickpeas, they're crunchy and you can add whatever herbs/spices you like. Here's an example http://www.chow.com/recipes/30368-spicy-oven-roasted-chickpeas

You could also try drinking more water/tea, I tend to want to snack less with I'm drinking more.

Black coffee. Raisins for emergency study sessions. I fueled my college years on pretty much pure sugar. I'm also pretty sure long-term it made me stupider. Try to change now. At least you're making healthier choices.
