Going From Obese to skinny

When will I realize that i'm not the 780 lbs girl anymore. Or even the 280 I started with on 1/1/14. Getting called skinny is so weird to me.

  • I started at 377 and have lost about 166lbs. I am probably a 16/18 now and ppl will call me "skinny minny". I have a hard time seeing myself as what I am now. I can look at pics and see the changes, but its just strange. My sister was talking about how little my arms are...I see the batwings, not my small forearms/wrist. She was complementing my legs and all I can see are my huge thighs and loose skin.

that is a phenomenal accomplishment! you may never be able to look at it quite the same way as the family and friends around you, but it is ALL YOU, and well deserved.

    rock on, with your skinny-self!

I haven't had that experience, but I'll give my two cents as some stranger on the internet.

    First:
    HOLY. MOLY.
I read through your page, and you've done an AMAZING accomplishment and change in your life. That deserves some major props. You made a decision to change your life, went through with it, and are continuing on your journey. That in itself is phenomenal.

    Second:
I saw that you said you've been large all your life. It's what you've been used to. The last ten years have been a major overhaul in your life, and a change in how you've lived and seen yourself. I think it's going to take some time to get used to the "new" you (since you're still changing and on a journey, I can see), and to get used to the fact that physically, you are not what you once were. It might just take some serious soul searching, and really evaluating where you're at right now to look in the mirror and say "yeah, I'm skinny. And this is me."

It could also be beneficial to speak to a therapist or counselor about this, since this is a huge lifestyle change. You've lost 2/3 of your body weight, and you've been through a lot. Sorting out the last decade with someone could really be beneficial in helping you realize that you aren't that 780lb person anymore, but you are who you are right now, and that's pretty awesome.

i hate the term "skinny" it is just as offensive as calling someone fat. i know it was meant to be a compliment but i think using that word is a huge double standard
