"Vacation"

I'm not really on vacation but since my husband is out of town, I'm staying at my parents house. They have been making so much good stuff for dinners and have tons of snacks that I don't usually keep in the house. I swear I'm going to gain ten pounds in the 4 days I'm staying with them! I'm still logging my food but yesterday went over about 300 cals between their cooking and a work luncheon. I guess I'm going to have to hit it hard again once I get home and am used to my routine. For those of you who have gained weight during a "vacation" (of any kind), how long did it take you to see the numbers go back down instead of up?

For one thing, considering your calorie goal is already a deficit, being over by 300 calories most likely still has you in a deficit, just a smaller one...at most you would be at or near maintenance.

For two, I make all kinds of good stuff at home too...food doesn't have to suck when you're dieting. I make all kinds of good stuff, but I just have smaller portions than I used to. I also practice self control in general when it comes to snacking and whatnot...mindlessly eating is not a good thing whether you are on vacation or not...it's a pretty bad habit.

I have never gained weight on a vacation. I may overindulge a bit here and there, but overall I make pretty good dietary decisions just like I do at home...this is how I've maintained for over a year without logging whether I'm on vacation or not. To boot, when I'm on "vacation" I'm usually more active than I would otherwise be throughout the day given that I have a desk job; when I'm on vacation I'm usually out and about seeing what there is to see, etc.

You could try working off the extra calories.

It typically comes off about as fast as I put it on...

I plan on trying to go on a walk tonight or something to help offset some of the indulgences. I'll be back to my "normal" routine on Friday when I go home.
