Hi Everyone,
I am new to the site, and want to lose weight !!!Not sure where or how to start. - Any idiots guide for me would be great
looking to meet people on here like me who need to lose weight so that we can motivate each other.
I have decided enough is enough and want to ditch the pounds or should I say kilo's !!!
Notice the weight creeping up the past two years.
Completed a charity run, but after that gave up running +retired due to torn knee ligament.
Unfortunately I am limited with exercise due to a neck/back injury which is gradually resolving.
So you see my dilemma - I feel limited with my fitness
Food - love it !! Seafood Diet has cost me my waist line !!b portion size how much weight is that !! know its a fist size but weight of food - another matter !!
Good points - I love my fruit and veggies, prone to pasta + sauce and love naughty foods including chocolate - bad points
So I ask my self is there any chance i could lose 10kg by August to start with and then set future goals from there
would welcome a big hello and perhaps a kick in the right direction to get going
Thanks

Hi there! I am a mommy of 3 and I was overweight for 7-8 years (ever since the birth of my eldest) and struggled to lose weight for years, I was 220lbs, bounced around the 200's for a couple years, got pregnant with my second child, then dropped to 185lbs until I was pregnant with my 3rd. the day after she was born I weighed in at 208lbs, I promised myself I would start a healthier life style and I started my healthier eating/ controlled portions diet while I was in the hospital, that was in January of this year.
Today I am 143.4! 65lbs lost! I've gone from a pants size 20 to a size 9! I feel 100% better.
I am doing a weight loss program called 21 day fix by Autumn calabrese! It's awesome! no calorie counting and simple foods.
If you aren't interested in a program then just start with buying a food scale, eat only serving sizes and cut the junk out. I also cut back on added salts( after a while you get used to it) and started drinking shakeology (not everyone is interested in it though because of the price)

Welcome Sunflower!
I'm new here also so I don't know if there are said "idiot's guides" or other reference material. I believe your goal is very attainable!
What I can say relative to your eating habits is that I think you'll find that if you log your food that by itself will be educational as you'll see right away the nutritional value of what you're putting into your mouth, and as you learn you can perhaps make different choices. Next, water is extremely important so drink the H20!
I understand your physical limitations too. I don't know if you have it in your budget to attend a small local gym, but a good trainer is professional and knowledgeable in choosing effective exercises and working around your injuries. If that's not in the budget then fine, so don't get all worked up and frustrated about not doing ten hours of rigorous exercise every single day, but know that any exercise you do whether it's a walk around the block or something small and simple is a step in the right direction.
Again, welcome and Good Luck!

Hi! I would suggest reading and rereading the stickies (posts with pins) at the beginning of this getting started forum. That helped me a lot. If you are going to count calories ( you would be surprised the number of people here that don't) you need to get a food scale. Another suggestion is to not label any food or group of foods as bad. If you then mess up and eat that food, you lead yourself into guilt and snowball from there.
Exercise is not necessary to lose weight. Heavy weight lifting will help maintain your muscle mass while you lose weight, but you may not be able to do that with your health issues.
You may be able to lose that amount of weight by august but I would not recommend it. I am assuming you want to keep it off. To lose that fast you would have to go very low calorie which would set you up to binge when you get to your goal.
Hope this helps!0 -
Hi!
When first starting out it always helps to do your research. There is plenty of info right here on MFP boards, and right on Google. If you can stick to logging your food journal daily, it will be an extreme difference what you choose to eat on a daily basis. It is a great thing you enjoy fruits and veggies, and we all love our pasta and chocolates. Although, when you log your pastas, sauces, candy, etc you will see how quickly your daily suggested calories are burned up. By logging healthier foods, you allow yourself to eat more throughout the day. I also suggest purchasing a food scale. I bought the WW at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $20 bucks. It is a life savor. You never realize how badly you can over eat (portion wise) if you "eye it out". This helps keep each meal under control. It is fun to explore healthy recipes, and see how you can take enjoyable foods and turn them into a "healthy" version. When I first started out (I was extremely picky) I used alot of www.skinnytaste.com recipes. It is weight watcher friendly, and lists all calories and nutritional information for each meal.
As for excersise, if you are limited you still have options. If you cannot lift heavy, try lighter weights with more reps. Don't totally rule out weight training, it is amazing. It really speeds up your weight loss process. Also, there is nothing wrong with taking walks 3-4 times a week just to get in some cardio.
I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions0 -
