Hi all. I am starting out using My Fitness Pal. My strategy is that I will make no changes this first week just using it to gauge exactly where my caloric intake lies. Once I have an idea of where I am I will make changes. We shall see how it works. 1200 calories seems like too few...

Is that the calorie intake the program gave you?

    Yes it is. :(
  • That does seem really low!! But however you will want to be in a calorie deficit! What brings you to mfp?

The program always gives people 1200kcal if they opt for a 2lb loss... >.> Silly MFP

    Read this link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

And as for your loss, the recommended losses (for a week) are:

    More than 75 lbs: 2 lbs/week
    40-75 lbs: 1.5 lbs/week
    10-40 lbs: 1 lb/week
    Less than 10 lbs: 0.5 lb/week

If you use a calculator like IIFYM or Scooby's (google TDEE calculator) to work out your TDEE, then reduce that amount by 15%-20%, that is a more sustainable and healthier deficit.

    Best of luck :D

1200cals is never enough! Do research into BMR and you should never be eating below that number.
