just cutting calories

Good MOrning everyone..

just wanting to know if anyone else is unable to lose weight without the exercise?

I personally have never had success with just cutting calories even if I just eat the 1200 calories and incorporate a very light walk once in my day the scale will not budge- I have to put in intense workouts along with cutting calories.

it makes sense that I would be able to loose weight with a deficit but in the last 24 days the only reason I had a loss is because we had a stomach bug last week!

mostly venting but also interested if anyone else can relate. YES I measure my food

    Calorie deficit=weight loss
    Exercise=fitness

If you weren't losing weight, there was a miscalculation somewhere. (inaccurate logging, overestimating exercise calories etc.)

^ Agreed. Unless you have some kind of disorder that messes with your weight (PCOS, Hyperthyroidism), then cutting back calories will guarantee weight loss to some degree. You may be losing it very slowly and not realize it. Re-access your daily caloric intake.

You were probably eating more than you realized (more than 1,200 calories), or else you had very little weight to lose and you didn't give it enough time.

I ate at 1200 calories for a while, lost 10lbs, got stuck forever and realized it wasn't proper.

Research your BMR and TDEE. My BMR is 1506 cals, I should never be eating below that. I've lost 17lbs so far eating between 1600-1800 calories. Do your research.

I'm looking to lose weight before I tone, so I stick to eating healthy and exercise purely for the health benefits. I go for walks/runs whenever I see fit, and eat back the calories that I burn.

It's always about eating the proper number of calories, whether you're active or not. As others have said, calorie deficit for weight loss, exercise for fitness.

I have lost weight without exercise, and with it. I prefer doing so with exercise because I like to be active and more activity = more calories to eat. :drinker: And I like the results - but should I be sidelined again for any reason, I know that I can continue to lose or at least maintain by adjusting my calorie goal accordingly and do just fine.

ok then I must be doing something wrong-

I calculated my TDEE and if I want to have a loss of 2 lbs per week it was giving me 2063 cals per day- meaning I should be cutting 800 calories out daily. I have been doing this and measuring religiously to a degree that it is annoying for those around me. I have a scale at work and at home and even measuring cups at work.

I don't have PCOS anymore- at least I don't think so since my obgyn insisited it was a misdiagnosis in the first place- (got pregnant on the first try) and the thyroid panels come back normal so what am I doing wrong then ?? hmm Im OK with having to exercise to lose the weight but those days when I cant fit a workout I can feel it.

I have 37 lbs to lose- realistically I can lose 57 but I don't want to shoot for that now.

yah... I started reading and going trough all those links --- little by little..

I guess since I only have 37 lbs to lose then 2lbs a week is throwing it off.

I will make sense of all this- SOON I hope!

Why not just try upping your calories or setting your goal to lose 1 pound per week to see what happens. Can't knock it until you try it right??? Also if you are exercising make sure you are eating back all or 1/2 of these calories.
