Fantastic post. As one of those 5'4".... Well 5'3" it is difficult to reconcile that I won't lose 2lbs per week (I have not quite 80lbs to go). Thanks for posting this.

Just try not to be discouraged about that, and celebrate the fact that you're here, you're making changes, and you WILL get there.
Can you lose it faster? There's always a way to do that, but oftentimes, that "way" causes more harm than good. The best bet is to remember that this is not the be all and end all in life. That you have time to make the RIGHT changes to get the RIGHT results, and that small, healthy changes DO add up.

You can totally do this! Just keep being patient with yourself, and don't give up!

    Love this post!

I think it's also important to point out that, in the beginning, it's normal to shed pounds really quickly - water weight/other factors (like, I was a soda addict) - but that will slow in a week or two and you can't quit because of it. I was all "yeah, I kick A*S at this" and realized that that first 15 pounds was like a present - and you only get that present once. The rest is coming off slowly, but that's the way it should be.

    YES! This is so true!

and in other cases... It's also not uncommon to see a quick spike in weight if you've recently added exercise that you never used to do... this can be water weight added as a result of muscle repair.

The biggest thing is to trust the process and monitor over time.

Spikes and drops over the short term are usually short lived...
Gained 5 pounds in 5 days... don't trust that
Lost 5 pounds in 5 days.... don't trust that either!

Does anyone have advice about how to judge what to put for your activity levels? (Like, a more detailed description of the different levels than are given when you put them in.)

This is a pretty awesome topic that speaks very eloquently about that:
