Giving up jogging

This kills 2 birds with one stone. Light cardio on the treadmill - plus, transportation to go get that new scale.
Perhaps you have to start running in reverse?0 -
Oh, yes, Crossfit. Because Rhabdo, blowing out your colon, severing your spine, or breaking your neck aren't as bad as a groin strain!
LOL, Crossfit is dangerous because their "certified instructors" can get certified in one weekend. Many of them have a hyper-macho attitude and don't know what they're doing. DON'T DO CROSSFIT.
And IDK what about running can cause a groin strain. Perhaps you should see a sports medicine or orthopedic doctor.Today I found that my food scale had totally given up on life (yes, I changed the battery, yes it still won't work) As I can't possibly eat without a food scale I decided I would jog down to Sears and handle this issue without delay. You see without a scale I can't weigh my food and if I can't weight my log will be inaccurate and if my log is innacurate it's not to be trusted and if I can't trust my log what's the damn point?
So, anyway, no big deal, Sears is less than a mile away!
I put on some workout clothes and my running shoes (legit running shoes. I went to a specialty store and everything) Out the door I went with thoughts of which kind of scale I would get dancing in my head. I head for the street, eager to get some more steps in, when i feel it. A sharp spasm of pain in groin area (that is to say where my leg and abdomen meet) and I fall to my knees from the shock and pain. I try to ride it out and get back up and continue on but now I'm limping and can't walk straight. I turn around and retreat back to my apartment, plan foiled and resigned to just not eating today.
Jogging is clearly much too dangerous an activity so I'm looking for something less likely to cause a groin strain and overwhelming pain for my cardio. Any suggestions?
But that Jof guy assured me crossfit was safe?
Not only safe, but also a superior approach to fitness.0 -

I heard running can give you rhabdo too. Sounds scary. I'd go with the mini trampoline. I've heard lots of good things about it. Did you know astronauts use them?0 -
mini-trampoline
Damn, you got there first. I hear you can lose 5kg a week and poop gold if you use those things for 5 mins a day.
LIES! *I* got there first.
I hate you! I HATE YOU ALL!!!
But you hate me best:smooched:0 -
Whatever you do, be careful.
Be sure you warm up before beginning whatever activity you choose.0 -
I suggest jumping in place repeatedly. Make a video and post it so that we can check your form to prevent further injury.
The video thing is a great idea! I'm glad you suggested it; surely the input from people on this site will help me avoid injury in the future.
Should I wear anything special to make sure that my form can be properly assessed?
This might work: (pretty sure her tops on backwards)
I'm thinking the less covering the better, so we can properly see and *kitten* the muscle movement of course.
And I don't understand how her bra is helping us in any way to see her form any better.
so something like this?0 -

There's a very small part of me that wants to try this.0 -

I mean, you seem like a trustworthy fellow so I can't imagine why I wouldn't believe you. We're all here for the same reason so it's not like you'd lie to me. :flowerforyou:0 -

Yes, please, this.
Please.
With video.
Lots of video.
Because proper form is essential...

Google Crossfit Injuries and Crossfit Rhabdo.
In some Crossfit gyms, they have beginners doing Olympic Lifts. These take years of practice and highly specialized skill to do safely. Yet some bro science *kitten* is screaming for some soccer mom to do more, faster, and with more weight the first time in the gym.
Don't listen to anyone who says Crossfit is a good idea. Traditional weight lifting is better.0 -
Oh no! that sounds really scary.0 -
OP, whatever you do, just try to avoid this maneuver:0

I was going to suggest that the outfit was ok, but that she should avoid the more advanced exercises until we've established that the basic jumping up and down form is good....0 -

Seriously, have you met Health_Gal (or whatever her new name is now)?
I haven't seen this kind of baseless fearmongering since she dropped off the site.
Full disclosure: I've done oly lifts in a crossfit gym without years of practice and without any specialized skill. No one ever yelled at me to do anything more or faster or heavier.
Don't listen to anyone who says Crossfit is a bad idea...and what does "traditional weight lifting" even mean?
TL;DR - don't believe everything you read.0 -

You don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I never once said there wasn't a plethora of articles about it. It's popular and people like to bash whatever is popular.
But let's just take one of your links...the one on Ogar. WTF does his injury have to do with any of your claims about crossfit for beginners? In what universe does an elite-level athlete sustaining a freak injury have anything to do with...well, for that matter...anything at all? Congrats, you googled "crossfit injuries" and spewed a few of the hits. You think that proves your point?
Meh. You're not worth the time to rebut. Obviously, crossfit did something bad to you at a young age and you're bitter about it. Whatever it was, I'm sorry it happened to you...because you're obviously very hurt from the experience.0 -

Just to add - I have researched Rhabdo. Not just Rhabdo and CrossFit, but the actual Rhabdomyolysis and causes. There are a lot of causes for it. If we are talking about exercise alone, yes, it can occur in CrossFit. It can also occur in running, as I mentioned earlier, "traditional" weight lifting, rugby, soccer, etc. It is also not uncommon in military recruits.
The only person I have heard of first hand or known personally to experience was a friend who just finished an Ironman triathlon (not his first and not a serious case) and I know a lot of CrossFitters.0 -
But let's get back to the *real* dangerous form of exercise which is...
...the mini-trampoline:

OP, I have the same strain!! I thought I was just a spaz running weird cause I'm not good at it. I have proper fit shoes & I don't think I'm doing anything I shouldn't be but who knows.
Curious how to stretch this out as well. Runs down from the top of my left hip on an inward angle but not quite down to my ... is that the same?0 -

Ok, going to be serious now. Be careful with that. I had a similar injury from running a little over a year ago and tried to keep running on it. I ended up dislocating my pubic symphysis and had to have a PT pop it back in to alignment, it was NOT fun. Stay off of that until it is fully healed.
I also recommend getting a lacrosse ball, pinning it to the wall with your butt and rolling it around to help deal with the muscle tightness through the hip region.0 -
The trampoline may be too dangerous....
I think the safest bets would be....
Squats...
Step aerobics....
Hula Hooping...
Cross fit possibly too, Jof would never lie to you....plus he has got a great scale that I am sure has shared her opinion on this with him, although she has kept her thoughts to herself lately... :laugh:0 -

I'm in NZ, we don't play much lacrosse here. Would a tennis ball work? Also its in the front not the back so would my butt be the right place to pin the ball? I would have thought it would have needed to be in the front somewhere?
PS: That dislocation sounds extreme! :sad:0 -

*fans self* Did it just get hot in here or is it me.
Also waiting for more details on this stretch thing. I don't have a lacrosse ball (who the hell plays lacrosse?) but I could probably scare up a tennis ball.0
