Does anyone have bad knees that still works out hard? I have terrible knees and want to work out harder. Is there a way to cut down on the pain or am I stuck not being able to up my work out?

I used to have what I would call "iffy" knees.
Squats fixed that problem.0 -

This and I use RockTape. I used to use the tape everyday but now I'v ebeen to feel good enough to cut back and only use it once a week if my knees start to feel iffy.0 -
Yes, bad knees from carrying so much weight for so long. Taking fish oil nightly has helped and I also wear sleeves on my knees while working out and riding.0

I have a messed up ankel and knee from birth. I also have 100+ to lose. A family memeber sent me this nifty little device "Stamina Inmotion" it is a sit style elliptical. I think new it runs 100 bucks but so far it has been easy on my knee and foot while giving me a definate work out. Mine came with stetch bands so my arms and legs are involved but I don't have to stand and work out.
Also if you afford it a swim memebership to a local pool probably would help.0 -

the fish oil does help, I have bad knees hips and feet. that and I walk as much as I can and just recently started biking again. they hurt when I first start my ride, but loosen up after a few minutes0 -
My knees are awful - literally zero cartilage. I wear knee braces evertime I work out. I go to bootcamp classes 3x per week and have recently incorporated bodypump (light weights many reps) and Insanity. I modify EVERYTHING in Insanity b/c the jumping kills my knees and I suck at walking lunges but I do the best I can. I have found that taking off some weight and stregthening my legs has helped.
As long as I keep them wrapped, I can do most things and push pretty hard.
Listen to YOUR body though!0 -
As a result of a knee injury from playing rugby when I was younger I now have an unstable knee. If I'm playing paintball I wear a Knee brace to keep my knee in place. I will use a less restrictive brace if I'm cycling. For light exercise I tend not to wear a brace unless I'm in a lot of pain. I tend to judge my level of exercise based on how my knee is each day. Over time I have learned how much I can push my self (sometimes I push a bit too hard though ).0

I have bad knees and a bad ankle. I still run a few times each week and lift. I drink a ton of water... take joint supplements... and for the most part suck it up hoping it will get better when I get a little bit of weight off my joints... but if the pain is really bad, I take a rest day. Icing your knees when they are sore after a rough workout helps too.0

Bad knees.....Yup - sure do have that !
I have had ACL reconstruction surgery on both knees, and still continue to run, play softball, golf, walk, cycling.....all the things I did before....
Occasionally the weather will play havoc with them, but otherwise I suggest taking glucosamine and dropping some weight certainly was the answer for alot of the pain....
Good Luck !0 -
Thanks for the great advice everyone!0
