When creating a recipe...

What do you do if you don't trust the label of an ingredient? Today's example, one ingredient is Taco Sauce so I bought some Juanita's Pico Pica taco sauce for the recipe. It states 0 calories per 1 tsp (5g). Which tells me it probably falls under the FDA rule about calling it zero calories if it's less than 4 per serving (or whatever). Well the problem comes in that I'm not using just 1 tsp of it I'm using 3/4 CUP (36 tsp/180g). I don't want to under-count my recipe but I can't find anything on cursory google search that tells me the ACTUAL calories. Ultimately I'll just let it go if I must...WWYD?

    I would use one cup.
    Go big or go home!

Ha, no kidding. If I was merely adding it to the top of my portion I'd have at it but it's an ingredient in a new casserole recipe I'm trying; don't wanna screw with it till I've made it the "right" way at least once!

Well, at 4 calories per teaspoon, you would be adding at most 144 calories to your whole recipe. Estimate or track it as written, with 0 calories? It's negligible, IMO.

Well, once you make it the right way, make it spicier. :)

^This^ or just track an additional 50 - 100 calories if it makes you feel better . I dont think that alone will make a huge difference

I would say its 5 cal/tsp. 36 tsp, as you said, which would be approximately 180 cal. You could try and find a taco sauce that actually shows up in MFP as 5 cal/tsp or you could just create your own in the database for this recipe.

Either way, I hope its tasty.

I would look up the calories in a bottle on their website. Sometimes they list it.

I have your answer!! Well. If you're using an iOS device I have your answer! I've been using the app on my iPad mini and iPhone since my computer took a dump and I finally figured it out.

Before I type it all out on said iPhone, what platform are you using?? Don't wanna spend 20 minutes getting it right if you're on Android and it doesn't even apply
