FRUSTRATED!!!

:sad: I have had a great start I lost almost 6 pounds in a month. I decided to go to the Police Academy in a couple of months so I went to the gym and started working with a personal trainer. I am busing my hump 4 days a week (sometimes 5) and eating 1800 calories a day except on workout days I have to eat more to make up the calories I have burned. The trainer is amazing she stays on my and pushes me to muscle failure when we train. I am a big woman I stand 5'11 and when I started I weighed 272. I was down to 267 when I started the training program. I have been in the program for about 2 1/2 weeks. I am back up to 271. I know that muscle weighs more than fat but I am so big that with as hard as I am working out and counting calories like I am there should be more weight loss and defiantly not weight gain. I am so frustrated. My trainer has not weighed me again yet I think she will soon but I don't want to see the look on her face when she sees that i have gained weight. Oh and I have noticed that I have gone down almost a whole bra size so I don't understand what the issue is. I have tried three different scales and they all said I gained. Any ideas what I am doing wrong??

  • Are you taking measurements? This happened to me once, many years ago. I got into weight training for about 4 years and ended heavier than when I started but this is because although I had burned fat, I had gained muscle which weighs more than fat. You may gain weight while losing fat.

    Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat - a pound of muscle weighs a pound and a pound of fat weighs a pound. Muscle is denser than fat, however.

    Next, can you open your diary?

    Are you weighing all of your food? Are you weighing yourself at the same time? Taking measurements? Where are you at in your monthly cycle?

    Weight is just a number, and there are many variables as to why you'll gain or lose weight on a daily basis. Are you drinking enough fluids, eating too much sodium, is it that time of the month, are you weighing/measuring your foods, etc...

    Take measurements. If you've gone down a bra size, then you're losing inches. The number on the scale will catch up eventually.

    Also possible your body is retaining water to deal with muscle repair.

    I weigh everything I eat and we normally weigh in once a week. I guess I just figured because I was so big that I would see weight loss no matter what at least for a while. It was just a shock to see everything that was lost back on the scale. When I started weight watchers I wasn't working out though. The weight gain came after I was in the gym for a couple of weeks. I will not have measurements done for at least another 2 weeks.
