Slowly losing weight. Help!

Hi All! This is my first time chatting. I have been using myfitnesspal on my iPhone for the past 5 weeks, but I just started today on my laptop with the community.

I am 43, 5ft 2in tall, current weight is 152lbs have lost 6lbs over 6 weeks (was 158lbs). My goal weight is 130. I also have been working out for 6 weeks doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30-40 minutes of strength training 3-4 times a week. I have been tracking calories at approximately 1,300 a day. My concern is it feels as though I put so much effort in, see such small changes and that at times see no changes at all. Could it be that I am gaining muscle? I really thought by being diligent in tracking calories/food and getting regular workouts in I would see a better result by now.

I am getting disappointed with my progress and am looking for some feedback from others and what others are doing that is working. I appreciate your thoughts on what to do and what may not be working for me. If other information is needed to give good advice, let me know. My diary should be able to be viewed. Thanks for your help.

A pound a week is terrific. It's just a slow process. We all get impatient. The only way to the end is to slog through. If your deficit level or your workouts are too much, pare back some. Good work so far!

1lb a week is actually really good, especially since you don't have THAT much to lose in the first place. Also, remember that weight loss is not linear. So you may lose nothing one week and 2lbs the next.
  • Yup. I agree with the other comments. One lb per week is slow and consistent, just as it should be. Besides the workouts and attending to the food diary, do you have regular contact with close friends and family? An active social life (in real face time, not virtual) combined with engagements with non-profit groups will accelerate the weight loss, if you can stay away from the banquet tables and the sugary/salty snacks organizations are famous for. I do see spring water, fresh fruit and veggie platters on more board room tables these days. Good luck.

6 pounds in 6 weeks is about a pound a week. Which is PERFECT considering you want to lose less than 30 pounds total. It feels slow, but it is steady healthy weight loss and will likely make it easier in the long run to keep it off.

I have lost 6lbs in the last 6 weeks as well. I am thrilled because it has always been difficult for me to lose any weight at all due to the medications I am on. You are likely building muscle and that is much more dense than fat is. You should measure your waist, thighs, hips and arms to really accurately tell how well you are doing. Also judge by how you fit into your clothes. Keep working out and dieting. Don't check the scale too much because our weight fluctuates 1-2 lbs due to water weight. I bet you are feeling great energy wise. I know I am. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

What you are doing IS working. Just be patient, you are doing great. You didn't gain all the weight in 6 weeks, so don't expect it to come off in 6! Just stick with it and celebrate the small victories.

I was over weight and tried so many things. Different things work for different people and I was lucky enough to find one that worked for me. I lost 18 pounds in one month without much exercise and it's been a life changer. I'm a little embarrased to post my before and after photos here but if anyone actually cares to hear what I've been doing then I'd be happy to help in any way. Just shoot me an email at secretosdelara@gmail.com and I'll show you my before and after photos, and tell you about how things are going for me with the stuff I've tried. I wish someone would have helped me out when I was struggling to find a solution so if I can help you then it would make my day

Thanks for the information from all the posts! I haven't done any measuring yet, but I am going to do that. I was hoping for more than maybe one pound per week, but if that is what is best I won't push for more. I appreciate your thoughts and comments. What are all of you doing for a calorie goal and workout routines?
I just added a ticker to my posts (like most of you have!) but it is not using the weight loss I had by using the iPhone app. It seems to be only using the information since I posted yesterday. Any thoughts on making it reflect my total weight loss? Thanks again.
  • You are doing great, keep at it! It took me 30 years to gain 80 lbs., so a pond a week is fast by comparison.

As, I saw weight loss is slow process, by giving great effort it really takes time to loose weight. Weight loss and weight management always need a positive attitude. To loose the weight you have to adopt a healthier way of life, for loosing weight you just eat fewer calories or burn up more calories then you need, drink green tea and fruit juice helpful for health and weight. Don't take very low calorie food, it would result to loose your muscle instead of fat.
