Hello all,
I want to know if chicken cooked with skin and but eaten without is the same as "skinless" chicken? In other words, does cooking chicken with the skin on increase caloric value, even if you remove skin before eating? How do I find the category for chicken cooked with skin but eaten without in the database?

not enough to make a difference I suspect....just keeps it jucier.
  • If you are removing the skin before you eat it, I would count it as skinless chicken.
I don't think there is going to be that much of a difference in the calorie count if you cook with it on and don't eat it.
Youre chicken will just be juicier

I often cook my chicken with skin on as it does keep it moist! I remove the skin before eating & count it as 'skinless chicken breast'.

Thanks all for your responses. I've been counting it as skinless, and for sure, the skin keeps it moister as it cooks.

There is probably a slightly higher fat content due to the fat from the skin melting into the chicken but the difference would be negligible and it's so much juicer!

I researched this question. The answer from the national chicken council confirms your responses: "The skin can be left on during cooking without adding calories to the meat. " Whew!
