Can someone please explain the difference and how I should go about shopping for meat? Any help at all would be great!

    Lean Meats:
    Chicken, white meat (breast)
    Turkey, white meat
    Turkey, ground
    Pork, tenderloin
    Beef, Filet
    Beef, Flank steak
    Beef, ground 90/10 ratio
    Buffalo
    Ostrich

    Fattier Meats
    Chicken, dark meat (thighs)
    Pork loin roast
    Beef, marbled (Ribeye, Porterhouse, etc.)
    Beef, ground 80% or less
    Most sausage
    Bacon

For the record, I eat all of these things. I just fit them into my macros. I'd be curious to see what other cuts people eat.

Paige682 provided a pretty good list there...I'd add a nice Top Round (London Broil) to my list of lean cuts of beef...just don't over cook it or it will get too tough...I'd also recommend some good marination to tenderize.

I would say the vast majority of my meat consumption falls under the "lean" category, to include fish as well. That said, I eat bacon every weekend and generally like to roast a chicken or smoke a pork shoulder or brisket or whatever at least once per week..fatty meats are delicious, just too calorie dense for me to get them in all of the time.

    'If it fits your macros'.

I tend to go for leaner meat because it means I can eat more. I'm not adverse to fat, but I find it bumps the calories up a bit too much for me, even on days when I've got 4000 calories to consume. There's other fats I'd prefer to consume (like when in cheesecake :) ), to fit my macros and I do like lean meat, so that works out well enough :).

I do mainly lean meats also. But I do enjoy some fatty meats also, love me some bacon (my sons prefer sausage).

Yes on the IIFYM. Having Ribs tonight and still have some fat left on my macros (%25). Although I am 208.
