If gym is out of the way

Hey,
summer is coming up, and the weather is getting nice. I just got a bike rack for my car and plan to do alot of bike riding and hiking as well. Problem I am coming across is the gym. I was going consistently for 2 weeks, then I slacked for another 2 weeks. One of the reasons is I noticed the gym is about 10 minutes out of my way. I mean, it's still close enough, but the opposite direction of my apt. When I lived bike riding distance from the gym when I was in another state, I'd go all the time, but it's hard enough to get my butt to the gym, let alone it being out of the way.
My question is: should I just freeze my membership and workout outdoors, or do classes, and also workout at my townhome's gym (it's super small, but has a few workout machines.) It would definitely save me money that I waste by not going to the gym, but also be close by, and I won't have to make any more excuses. I know it's only a call I can make, but I am pretty confused and not sure.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

I kind of have this problem because I needed a gym with a pool (because I used to be a swimmer). I just remind myself that 10-15 minutes isn't that long, and I've started listening to audiobooks so I look at it as a really great time to listen to my book I hope that helps! I also always try to remind myself how amazing I feel after a workout.0

Exactly! But I was listening to a story on youtube on my way to the gym so it wouldn't feel a long commute, and I got so into it that I sat in the parking lot listening to it and didn't go into the gym. lol.0

I've only ever been to a gym three times in my life, and personally I didn't enjoy it, I much prefer going running in the streets/fields around where I live and doing yoga type stuff in my house. The only thing I miss is the cross trainer but I am going to invest in one when I get paid. I think you can save so much money by doing as much as you can at home, especially if you aren't really close to the gym (travelling costs). But this is just my personal preference0

Just freeze it. Machines are pretty much useless unless you are there for some sort of rehab. You're better off lifting free weights at a gym that has them. My gym is way out of the way. There are 4 cheaper gyms closer to my house (as in less than a mile), but I chose the Y (which is 10 miles away) because I knew it had the tools that would keep me motivated to go. I'd prefer to spend $65 and drive 10 miles to actually go than spend $30 and not go. But...the key is that I go.0

The golden rule of saving is don't pay for something that you don't use!
If you are enjoying some Free-of-charge exercise now and soaking up the sun. keep enjoying it while it lasts
I'm not one for gyms at all, I would only go to enjoy the pool but I walk often and I do a huge household clean once a week and 2 hour-long DVD's at home per week too.
I am not a die-hard exercise fan, but I do like to tone up whilst I'm focusing on the weight-loss.

I could walk to a gym, I think I've only gone 5 times since last August. All of my strenght training and cardio exercises have been done at home or outside. I lose inches quickly, I'm starting to see some awesome muscle tone all over (my son and husband are always making comments about my muscle ) So I say ditch it. You can get the same results, if not better at home. My mirror and my scale are what keep me in check, not the gym rats.0

Sorry, but a 10 minute detour to get to the gym sounds like an excuse not to go to me. I know a great number of people who are traveling 25 minutes just to get to the gym every day-including me. If you want it bad enough, you be willing to make that short trip.0

Yeah, I realize I am making excuses. I found www.freetrainers.com which has some awesome workouts tailored just for me, and I think this will get me motivated to go to the gym. I am really good with routine.0
