Been here a week.

Trying to lose some idle flab that built up over the course of a year. This place is a real eye opener. I didn't realize how poor my diet was and still is. I don't mind being hungry but I have no will power when it comes to cravings. I think how easy it would be to eat some chocolate or bacon...or pizza. But I do have cholesterol results from before I gained the weight and after I gained forty pounds. It's not pretty. I need to use that as some sort of motivation if nothing else.

Eat "healthy" (whatever that means to you) 80% of the time. Fit yummy, portion-controlled treats into your calorie goal.
Deprivation can lead to bingeing.

Congrats on making it a week! Logging is incredibly eye opening isn't it? I'm always blown away by things that constantly surprise me. Anyway, for me, logging is key. Facing up to the stats of your "normal" food is really a trip. And don't get me even started on logging booze. eeek0

I promised myself I would not try to make major changes right away, just commit to logging food and exercise for a week or so. But I am so shocked at the things I've been eating, and drinking. It's hard to keep my promise to myself not to make big changes yet.
I have a lot of emotions around food. I think I need to take it slowly...
BUT OMG, SWEET TEA! And I have to count beer??? Beer doesn't count as long as your friend drinks with you, RIGHT??0 -
I have been eating relatively healthy for a while... no sodas, no gluten (I'm in tolerant), not too many cabs, little sugar, etc, and I exercise, but I have not been losing weight. Today was my first day of logging my food. Geez....that explains it. Hidden sugars, hidden (or not hidden) fats. I think this will really help me make better food choices.0

I think you're making fantastic progress for only being here a week, and I'm sure it will start to show up on the scale, and in other ways soon too. I hope you keep it up, I love having you here with me.
And I'm so glad you're on the forum, there's so much great stuff here, just stay away from the love gurus.0 -

Just turned 50 last month, and was able to join the gym that the city runs (Dept of Senior Affairs, HOW did I get so old?? for $13 a YEAR. So I decided that it was time to take advantage of that opportunity. But I always mess myself up when I work out and think, 'Oh, I can eat whatever I want now!' so I joined here to try and keep my eating under control, as well as track my progress. Love to share, so feel free to friend me if you would like to share the experience and motivation together.0

This is my first DAY with "MFP" and I hope I can be like David and brag about being here a week next Tuesday! I was able to stick with a modified Paleo diet for over a year but, lately I'm craving desserts (pies, cakes, cookies) and ice cream! I think it started with one dessert (after not having ANY for over a year) and progressed to more and more. I've gained 7 lbs. and today is the first day of getting back on track! I'll stick to this website like glue for inspiration!0
