Hi all,
I am 39 weeks pregnant and so ready to be a MILF!
I am getting everything ready for when I have him I get right back on track! So I was wondering where should I start on my calorie intake. Before it was set on losing 2 lbs a week and only 1200 calorie intake I know that it will be more since I am starting at a higher weight and my midwife told me I have to add 500 calories for breastfeeding. So I dont know if I should go to the recommended 1 lbs a week and if I do it comes out to be about 2300 calories! Does that sound right?

Also, In my head I already have a workout regime but I know it will be subject to change because of the baby! But does this sound do-able to moms out there! While I am recovering from birth and lack of sleep I was thinking daily walks. When that starts to feel like not enough I would add a couple days of the gym or turbo jam to my daily walks. Then when my routine is really set I want to go for daily walk/runs with the dogs and turbo jam with everyother day of the gym ( so the new stay at home mom can get out at least twice daily haha)! Does this sound like a good plan?!

I also dont know how long its going to take me to get in the swing of things with a new baby! Being a first time mom and all so i really need the motivation!! And if anyone is losing the baby fat too I would love to be friends! :flowerforyou:

I hope all of you are having a great start of the year and wish me luck on this newest endeavor called motherhood! I'll need it!

  • Breastfeeding is going to make you HUNGRY! Don't ignore it. You and the baby will need it. However, remember to make smart choices. Just because your calories increase doesn't mean you want to waste them on cheeseburgers and fries. The nutrients from your food are going to go to your breastmilk first for your baby. You're going to need more nutrients for your own energy! Lots of fresh, healthy foods! As a busy new mom it was way easier for me to eat small meals throughout each day rather than one large meal. Also, drink lots of water. It's even more important when you're nursing.

Breastfeeding will help take your weight off pretty quickly. The act of breastfeeding burns a ton of calories.
  • good luck!!! i just had my baby in august he is the love of my life and motherhood is the best thing in the world!!! i am also working on losing my baby weight + a little extra... i gained a lot of weight with my big boy, but determined to lose it now!!! i wish i would have started right after i had him also i would be a lot further along then i am right now!!! so more power to you!!! my advice to you is nap time is workout time... so get your baby on a schedule as soon as you can, it will keep you sane!!! the first month is the hardest but so worth it!!! i cant even imagine life without my little guy now!!!

and with the breast feeding, an extra 500 is recommended for at least the first 2 months because thats when you are establishing your milk supply!!! so i would recommened to stick with that for the first 2 months at least... after that i dont think its as important but you are very hungry all the time!!! my little guy is 5 months old i have cut my calories about a month ago and started working out a ton, and havnt noticed a difference in my supply!!! so good luck to you on this journey called motherhood ITS AMAZING!!!

First of all, congratulations on the upcoming birth of your first baby! It will be the best time of your life!

2300 calories sounds about right! I would take it day by day after the little one gets here. I found that if I restricted calories, I knew because my milk production drastically decreased. Also, be sure to eat back exercise calories!

I don't have much advice because although I am a first time mom trying to lose the baby weight, my baby is 15 months old! We breastfed for 14 months and so just now am really able to get serious about trying to lose this weight (breastfeeding and weight loss just wasn't in the cards for me). Breastfeeding does not equal fast weight loss for everyone.

Good luck, and take care of yourself and your new little one! Congrats again!

First and foremost, listen to your body! If you are tired, then rest! If you are hungry, then eat! Perhaps a good place to start with calories is set your calorie goal to "maintenance" level. (losing NO lbs). Then you figure, with breastfeeding, you are going to be at a deficit. Starting with walks is great! Just make sure you listen to your Doctor and take whatever he/she recommends for recovery after labor before exercising.

It does take awhile to get into the swing of things with a new baby. My "new" baby is now 2 years old. Walking was great for me because I could put him in the stroller and take him with me. I felt too guilty in the beginning to actually think of leaving the house to go to the gym and take some me time; I didn't want to leave his side! Do what works for you. Just don't be too hard on yourself at first about losing the weight. Getting into the swing of motherhood is a challenge and it effects everyone differently.

I lost a few lbs after having my son. But, I really wasn't serious about it. It wasn't until about 6 months ago that I decided to get serious and lose the weight. And keep in mind, when it comes to exercise, your boobs will be full and sore a lot if you are breastfeeding! Be sure to support the girls during exercise!! :flowerforyou:

And congrats on the baby! It's just the best thing EVER!!!
