What do you do to find your "Me Time?"

Hi, I just joined today and need some healthy eating motivation. I've recently started P90X as my workout choice and I feel physically/mentally better. My problem is I'm a busy mom of 3 boys, work from 8-5, sports, scouts, or volunteer work in the evening and it's hard to find the time for myself. So I started getting up at 5am because that seems to be the only "me time". Does anyone else have a problem with time and what do you do to find your "me time"?

I have 4 kids so I understand about "Me Time". I feel like it is nonexistent. in the past, I have always told myself that I did not want to "waste" what little time I have to myself on exercise when there is so much more I need to accomplish. Now I am looking at it in a whole new way... I am making it a gift to myself... I am trying to change my mindset... Good luck!

My me time is at 4:15 am. If I don't exercise in the morning then I won't exercise at all or "life" gets in the way.
  • i am the same a mother of 4 kids, and worl from 7:30 to 4:30 as a Nurse...but my me time comes after, picking up the kids, making dinner, baths, homework, playing with them for a lil while, tucking them in, folding clothes, and cleaning the kitchen my ME time comes around 10:00..but it works

I exercise after the kiddos go to bed, which isn't until 10pm. Because of this, it doesn't always happen. Sleep is more important at times.

I am hoping that when we find a new house soon I'll have the set up to do dvd's or the elliptical while they are awake and playing elsewhere in the house.

I use my lunch hour at work to hit the gym. Before I joined the gym, I would walk. If it's too cold or raining outside, I could walk the floors of my building and go up and down the stairs. When I get home from work, weather permitting, I'll take my son for a walk in the stroller, or jog to the park. While he plays at the park, I step up and down on benches (like step aerobics) and job in place, etc. That may not qualify as "me time", but I'm moving my body!

I find that sleep is definetely more important at 10pm. That is why working out late at night isn't for me. I'll always choose sleep over working out. But getting up at 5am hasn't been too hard, as long as I go to bed at a decent hour. I'm one of those people that "NEEDS" 8 hours of sleep to function. Do you find it hard to fall asleep after working out?

I do too. I go to bed between 9:00-9:30. I've never been a late night person...so much so that my mother never gave me a curfew growing up because she knew I would come home so I could go to sleep at a decent hour.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a dad of 3 and they are all in sports. Between practices/games, homework, dinner, and quality time...that doesn't leave many hours on the clock for me. Luckily I'm a night owl and I like working out pretty late.

My suggestion is to see where your time is going. Are you spending time watching TV? If so, prioritize your workout higher than that. That's just an example. If you have husband/bf/SO see if they can take on a little more to give you some 'me' time. Me time is important for me and should be to everyone. Otherwise we'd all be nuts!

Once my two kids are asleep in bed its the only 'me time' I can get. I'll put my workout clothes on before they go to bed so I don't find an excuse. I can hop on the treadmill and watch a show in peace. I used to love getting up early in the morning - 5am and going to the gym, but after having kids that's just not working for me. I'm afraid I'll wake them up (expecially the 9 month old).
I usually fall asleep pretty quick at night and I'm glad I got the workout in!
