Summer Slump - Need Advice & Motivation!

I've been off MFP for a couple weeks because work has been crazy busy and I had an out-of-town conference in wine country (meaning no counting and lots of wine). Needless to say, I haven't been tracking but have held steady and not gained weight. I need motivation to get back on track, but it's hard. Any words of advice or encouragement would be appreciated. My problem is not being prepared - not having the time or energy to stock my fridge and pantry with the right foods. So then I eat out which is no way to lose weight. Also, I've been drinking too much wine which is not a good thing! I need a wine-free month I think, but it's just so hard in the summertime with so many happy hours and parties and such. How do you all handle this? I need a swift kick in the pants, but it's not coming easily.

It sounds like you've solved it yourself. Give up the wine for a month (or cut back to some reasonable level) and go shopping. It's hard getting back to work after vacation mode. You just have to do it, or suffer the consequences.

New recipes can always spark new interest. They're all over the internet. Pick two, make a shopping list, and head out. Get yourself some new facial mask or crab legs or something 'nice' with the wine money.

    Good luck!

I'm not great at shopping/planning in advance - I blame it on a crazy family schedule (excuse, I know) but eating out/fast food doesn't have to mean you overeat.

First step: get back to tracking. Log everything, even if you're not eating at your goal. Even the wine. Once you're back in the habit of logging for a week or two, get on track and stick to your goal/budget calories. Then if its something you enjoy, allow one day a week and aim to eat at maintenance that day including the wine. If you're aiming for a 500 calorie deficit normally, 500 calories is enough to enjoy some wine. The rest of the week, aim for a 600 calorie deficit to make up for it.

Thank you for the great advice. Definitely agree that I just need to start right now and track and then go shopping asap to stock up on healthy stuff. I also plan to get back into Zumba, which I haven't done if forever and really miss! I was doing so well and just need to get back on track. :)
