    That sounds off. The protein goal is really high too. Have you rerun the numbers? I'm no IIFYM expert, but what site are you using to get these numbers?

    231g of protien is MONSTEROUS. You do not have to eat that much.

    Protein= 1 grams/lbs * (Weight - Weight*bodyfat percentage)
    Fat= 0.3 grams/lbs * Weight
    Those are minimums. You are free to fill in the rest of your calories with whatever you'd like.

    So if you are 200lbs and have 40% body fat:

    Protein = 1 grams/lbs * (200lbs - 200lbs * 0.4) = 120 grams
    Fat = 0.3 grams/lbs * 200 = 60 grams

    Further:

    120 grams * 4 calories / grams = 480 calories of protein
    60 grams * 9 calories / grams = 540 calories of fat

    Protein + Fat = 1020 calories.

    If you are on a 1800 calorie diet that would leave 780 calories for carbs, which is 195 grams.

    She pretty much nailed it. I would recommend .4g-.5g/lbs of fat though.

    Yeah, that protein goal sounds WAY off. I would say half of that would be more than fine. The 80ish grams for fat sounds right on though.

    Is the 199g of protein from your actual weight or for your lean body mass? Protein should be 1g for each pound of lean body mass. Anything else is just excess and can be used for carbs or fat.

    I thought it was .8 g per kg ..

    Anyhow .. unless you're actively bodybuilding, there's no need for anyone to eat more than 100g of protein a day.

    Something is getting entered wrong. I am a 220lb male and my protein never comes up that high when I have used that calculator.

    Right now it is at 165gm per day and that is on an intake of 2200 calories per day. My Fat is 73 and Carbs is 220. Granted I am not using that calculator, I am using the how to calculate calories and macros from Feeding Fitness on YouTube. But they are still close to what IIFYM have given me.

    Except that protein, and fat, are more satiating than carbs.

    The only calculator in the iifym site that you use to calculate your macros uses your lean body mass so that could be why yours is so high. Find your lean body mass then recalculate.

    Actually I just went to the www.iifym.com and it told me to use my total body mass which is sort of wrong...

    OP: To get your lean body mass you need an estimate of your body fat percentage. It doesn't have to be exact. If your profile picture is recent I'd guess somewhere around 40%.

    Lean body mass = total mass - (Total mass* body fat percentage).

    Here's the youtube link for Feeding Fitness and I use this method to set my macros:

    ETA: I just started IIFYM, so only time will tell. But I definitely like how simple his method is though!!

    I've just tried that calculator as well. Using my gender, height, weight and body fat % it still tells me to eat 155 g of protein per day on a low carb diet. I am heavy but not that heavy...

    IIFYM suggests 1.25 g protein per lb lean body mass which seems way too high.

    I just use .8 of a realistic goal weight in lb for my protein goal. I don't really know my LBM, but .8 of the goal I'm using is not implausible--it's actually pretty consistent with what my LBM was when I last had my BFP estimated (although that's from a body fat scale, which I know is inaccurate, and also when I was 25 lbs heavier). Also, last time I was at the weight I used for goal I was almost certainly over 20% fat. So if anything the estimate is probably a bit high, unless I built up my LBM from being much fatter (which is possible, of course). Anyway, given that it need not be perfect I recommend that kind of estimate. The number is more reasonable than basing it on a weight where I'm way above 20% body fat.

    If you want to retain muscle while cutting (losing weight) you need protein to prevent muscle loss. So no, people actually do need more than 100g of protein a day.

    You can do .8g of protein for full body weight.

    Or 1g of protein for lean body mass.

    Hopefully you have figured out your correct macros by now, OP.
