As hypocritical as it may sound, I want to be valued for the person God made me and not for the flatness of my stomach. I have been anorexic, obese, overweight, and now within a normal weight range and can and do entirely sympathize (i.e. suffer with) every woman who has ever fallen into the snare of evaluating her worth based upon her appearance or the numbers on a scale. It is certainly natural to want to look and feel pretty, but regardless of how I feel about my appearance, I will not define myself, nor will I permit others to define me based upon my appearance, good or bad. The man who stares at my body and approaches me as a result of it is the last man I want to meet, and if that means I end up perpetually alone, then so be it.0

I think part of the solution for you is to confront the "pain" that is causing you to be an emotional eater. Talk to a counselor about improving your self esteem.....there is always going to be disappointment if you compare yourself to others. Instead, focus on being "healthy". Take care of your body because you deserve to....don't beat yourself up because you are not like others around you. We are all so different for many valid reasons, the first of which is GENETICS! I am 5' 0" tall...I will never look like "those models"!
You will have much more success if you adjust the reason for trying to lose weight.0 -
Dear faitherz123,
Shall I sing you, "Don't you know you're beautiful?" from Sesame Street? It's a song that my mother had on a record (vinyl) that I still have. I don't know it could be on YouTube somewhere and it is a good song to hear. My mother used to sing it to me and I certainly sing it to my children and others whenever it seems that they need it. The lovely Kerricus on MFP had her photo name a question about how would you act today if you knew/felt beautiful and it was a powerful thing to consider and even more powerful to ACT upon.
Can you see beauty? Do you find it in nature? Any of your friends or family? Can you recognize the beauty in spite of the differences between your other skating friends or do you only have one definition? If you can see it in them, walk along a sidewalk next to window and catch a glimpse of the female passing. Stop and take a look at her and be as gracious to her as you are to your various friends. Sure, you may prefer a certain eye or hair color or style or type of hair or body shape or size but that female, she IS ALREADY BEAUTIFUL in her own way. When you can see that beauty and live with that understanding in yourself, others will see it too and one day, someone will reflect it back to you and find you to be the beautiful woman that you want to be in your post.
Don't forget to address both the outside and inside beauty of this woman so that as she ages, she remains beautiful over time as well and not just in her youthfulness.
If you can't get to this beauty because of the pain that you have in your life, you may have to examine and address that so that you can get past this so that you can see your beauty. If you can't do this on your own, consider finding someone to help you either as a confidant or with a professional counselor/therapist so that you can be assured of their competence and professionalism and discretion.
I hope that you can find something in this to help you.
Growing more and more gorgeous by the day, Drattedfatbody520
