Free Cake At Work

Is it good cake? Like, did some French chef come in and whip it up by hand and them flame torched a little creme brulee to go with it? If so, face plant into that cake! (Or, you know, have a small, reasonable slice.)
Or is it some dry, grocery store cake or a "homemade" cake that someone made from a box that is most likely dry and cardboard-ish with icing that tastes sickeningly sweet because it came out of a plastic tub? If that is the case, don't waste your calories and stick to your carrots!
I couldn't agree more. I was working in a place where cake was available at least every week. I had cake twice in 18 months. Once was an exceptional cheesecake and the other was a homemade cake that was made by an elderly Greek lady. Both cakes were worth it!
I have a big breakfast and then it doesn't really feel like I'm missing out.0 -
they have free food at my work at least every first of each month for all the birthdays of that month...so cake, cookies, snacks etc
i usually make the day where they are having food a cheat day...i plan my cheat days on those days....0 -
And now it's time to plaaaayyyy....
CAKE VS. WINE!!!!
Ladies form your teams and the lightning round will begin shortly.
I don't like wine. So, in for cake!0 -
The cake is a lie.0

I have nothing of importance to add here, only the topic made me think of this one time at work where one of my co-workers announced "free cake" located in the breakroom. I spent a short while drooling and thinking of what kind of delicious highly caloric monstrosity was in store for me, only to find much to my disappointment that this "cake" was actually a watermelon shaped like a cake and covered in icing and almond shavings.
I had a big sad, it was a very mean thing to do.
Oh and cake trumps skinny fo sho yo. I will jog an extra 10 min for cake.0 -

And yet, there have been threads here proclaiming the virtues of exactly such an abomination..
Baking is my hobby. And I like watermelon. But watermelon can never be a substitute for cake. Not even a mediocre cake.0 -
My job never has free cake. I'm jealous.0

Even of the fake cake?0 -
So I can have yours?0

ok, OP, if I am going to maintain this weight loss, then I need to be at a weight where I can eat surprise pieces of cake.
I like cake, especially white cake with buttercream frosting, yum. I really like grocery store cakes, and ones that come out of a box. I even like frozen birthday cakes from pepperidge farms.
If I have to choose a vegetable instead of cake when cake is presented, I will be unhappy. Luckily for me cake does not show up very often in my life, so I have to wait for a birthday/potluck to even have the opportunity.
However, I do not like chocolate cake. It tastes dry to me, leaves black crumbles in my teeth, just not my favorite.0 -
also, fruit is NOT cake. Angel food cake with fruit and cool whip is really the only acceptable "light" alternative to cake.0

Okay, not of the fake cake. They often have fruit cups and stuff like that.
I never eat it.0 -

I know the feeling. We have pizza day once a month. And usually it falls on a day that I wasnt prepared with a lunch and I am super hungry. Im not gonna lie, I have only been able to pass one time. All the other times I just eat a slice of the veggie pizza (luckily its in the MFP database), and call it a day. I try not to beat myself up about these things, while still trying to have a healthy sense of discipline. Oh and by the way, put me down for the wine team!!0

When I was sloppy with my diet, I was a sucker for red velvet cake. I'd allow myself a slice or a cupcake if it were made well and available and I could work off some of the calories at some point during the day. .0

I work as a nurse at a hospital...there is always free cake or doughnuts or candy or cookies or something! It is tough. I usually don't partake (anymore) but the other day I did let myself have one bite of cake. Probably won't do that again...seemed like it led to a whole weekend of letting myself give in. I do let myself have one "treat" a week and usually I want it to be something good so I am very picky.0

dang what kind of cake are ya'll eating? I often like grocery store cakes and "homemade" cakes that came from a box, I don't think I've ever had a dry cardboard one. And I love frosting from a can.0 -
Man, I work in the wrong place....we don't get any kind of free food :sad:0

It's impossible to choose between wine and cake! I do think carrots dipped in say Riesling is good though. My office is always filled with food. There is even an M&M dispenser. I am guilty of baking at home and bringing it in. That way, I get the baking bug out of my system and bring it in so I don't have to eat it all at home. I try to bake healthy-ish stuff, but the winner is always the Chocolate Stout and Ginger Cake. It has a cream cheese frosting and is just sinful. Only do that about once a year though.0

I've been told there's cake over in the break room. So far I've been avoiding it.0
