Hormone Therapy and Weight Loss

Hey there! I am a PT, who is recovering from a severe bout of endometriosis, in which I was given the 3 month Lupron injection in February. Basically it put my body into a temporary menopause, and along with that, I gained 20 pounds.

I know what to do, I am doing it. I am eating clean about 80% of the time with a bigger goal in mind gradually. I am working out at least 3-4 times a week. I am logging my calories.

But this weight won't budge. Not even one pound.

Has anyone else experienced this with hormone treatment? If so, did you find anything or anyway to help get it out of your system?

Is there anyway to detox from it?

I am really getting frustrated and would appreciate any advice given!!!

TIA!

    1. Check the "Groups" section above to see if there are groups to help you.

    2. Seek a referral from your doctor for a qualified dietitian to help you create a weight loss meal plan to work with your medication.

I have been on and of fof low dose Premarin since my complete hysterectomy in 2001. I have never noticed that my HRT has caused a weight gain. All meds are different, just as everyone's system is different. Ask your pharmacist and your Dr about this possible side effect from the injection you had..

My doctor swears that the Lupron wouldn't do this, but I've never had a problem losing weight before taking this, and the insert that lists all the side effects lists weight gain. So I don't think she will help me.

As far as contacting a dietician, that is a good idea. Maybe it's going to take more than logging my 1200 to figure out. I do have a gluten intolerance, so maybe she can tell me how that affects this.

    Thanks ladies.

I did check the groups section, and just couldn't find anything.

I would take the insert back to my doctor and shove it in her face. If your doctor isn't helping you then dismiss her and find another one. The medicaton could very well be masking your weight loss even though you are eating at a deficiency. Don't take crap from people, especially those that are getting your money.

Ditto this. Never, ever be afraid to "fire" your doctor. If they are dismissing your concerns and blatantly ignoring a known side effect of the medication, then it is time to find a new doctor. Ask friends and coworkers for recommendations. After moving to a new area, I have found that most people are more than happy to recommend doctors, dentists, etc. that they have had good experiences with. You are paying the doctor good money to watch out for your health...they are failing on their end of the bargain.

I have not taken the medication you are on but I am on HRT (estradiol and progesterone) for a POF diagnosis. I just started taking them this past winter and have gained about 5 pounds that don't seem to want to budge. I have no answers for you but want you to know I can empathize!

She wanted me to take a second injection, but after the side effects I had, I told her no way. I told her that even though she hasn't had anyone experience such bad reactions to her miracle drug, I sure did. I felt like I was dying. I was sleeping up to 18 hours a day, severely weak, had major bone pain, nausea, and I lost my boobs!

She did run blood work on me because she couldn't possibly believe it was from the Lupron, and guess what, everything was normal!
So I told her I hated to tell her this, but she was wrong, and I was going to go to a specialist from now on. So in a way, I guess I did fire her lol.

I haven't got my cycle back yet, so I am sure this medication is still in my body, causing me a load of frustration. I hope that once it's out, my weight will start to come off from all the work I'm doing.

Thanks for everyone's replies, and if you run across anyone else who has figured a way around this, please let me know! :)
