Tell me to not eat my feelings

So, some things are going down at my husbands work that have me on edge. I am a SAHM and we have two little kids. We just moved to another country for this job.... Anyways... any changes to his work visa and we have to go back.
So..... of course all I want to do is dive into a big bag of chips or a greasy, fried, delicious dinner... only to be more depressed that I allowed food to take over.
Nothing is set and nothing is being done, yet. but its stressing me out. Tell me, tell me to not take out my stress with food.

Practice yoga, or if you're really agitated, do some cardio. Go brush your teeth right now, cause you'll be less likely to munch while you're minty fresh. If it gets overwhelming, pop a stick of gum after guzzling 16 oz of water. You can do this!!0

Get that negative energy out! Don't eat it, you'll just feel worse hon :flowerforyou:0

i dont understand that situation, but hubby and my hours have been cut and we have a 2 year old so i understand the stress. just make sure you have lots of little snacks around. popcorn, on the stove not the bag, works great and so do pretzel sticks. im not really in to the carrot sticks and apple slices, but they help as well. drink a big thing of water as well. mostly you are dehydrated and not hungry. if you need to have a friend, go ahead and friend me, and i will talk you down and you can talk me down when we are in this situation. good luck to you, and the people on this site are awesome.0

I definitely recommend blowing off some steam with exercise. A run, a kickboxing dvd, something energetic like that - or something soothing and meditative like yoga or tai chi.
Something that really helps me is to have something low calorie but relatively "cheaty" around to "indulge" in if I get that way. For me, it's dark chocolate sugar free pudding cups. 60 calories but quite chocolaty. I find if I really want to emotionally eat, that will help IF I make sure to focus on really savoring eat bite and enjoying every last bit. It can take a bit of practice to get the right mentality, but I find having "emotional eating training wheels" like that can be very helpful.
I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*0 -
I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. :brokenheart: It is easy to go to food for comfort, but you will be even MORE unhappy and stressed if you turn to food during this stressful time in your life.
Do you have a treadmill? An elliptical? A workout that you haven't been able to do? Run as fast as you can for as long as you can. Do the WHOLE workout all the way through. Don't let your stress win. Guzzle a glass of water, get yourself away from any temptation. Grab a piece of fruit with yogurt dip for sweetness. Handful of nuts for saltiness.

Keep your hands busy... I've started crochetting (not sure if that's spelled right-knitting)... drink water... color with your kids... just distract yourself... I've even started to add what I want to eat, then when I see how much its gonna blow all of my hard work, I think twice... Good luck to you...0

Thanks everyone!
I do have an elliptical I used it already today but... nothing wrong with using it again! I am suddenly really thirsty so I think I will chug some water and just keep myself from my food therapy.
Why can't I be a person who doesn't eat when I get stressed? One of those people who lose weight because of stress? Food is my comfort. I hate it because its also my enemy.0
